After posting a few comments yesterday morning,I had

a bit of a traumatic experience.Somehow,I managed to trip up in the lounge, don’t know how or why,and fell heavily on my right hand, trying to break my fall ,hitting the edge of the marble hearth..not good…2 hours later, after a visit to Casualty,I have a plaster cast almost up to my elbow,as I have broken a meta tarsel bone on the top of my hand…not an easy place to sort out,and very painful to re align had to have lots of gas and air, whilst the 2 wonderful nurses set it as quickly as they could…As it was almost 11am,the 3 of us sat silently for 2 minutes,in remembrance..as they asked if I minded,as they just didn’t have the time on Thursday..my pot was on at this point,so we did…it was quite moving..
i am managing ok so far, thank goodness Russell is no longer working,or I would find it difficult.Although I am left handed with writing and type mostly with my left hand,I can’t press’shift’ for capitals, but I can just manage to press it with the middle finger tip of my right.so will still be able to post or comment…I can’t peel or cut anything,as I do that with my right,so Russ will be my PA for the next 3 or 4 weeks, when hopefully,I will have the pot off…so,no cooking, vacuuming etc..and goodness knows what I will look like, when he attempts to wash and do my hair.Lol…Haven’t sussed out the shower bit yet,as we don’t have a bath..a big plastic bag tied over the arm comes to mind !..anyway,at least I can play on here…so all is not lost…It is hard to find something to wear,as can’t get a jumper over my hand…only one baggy sleeved cardigan..how I wish it was Tshirt weather..Anyway,reflecting on the date,This is a mere discomfort, thinking of the injuries a lot of our brave soldiers have to suffer with,so it pales into insignificance.I wiil be ok again in a few weeks.,unlike many of them..I have to go to the Trauma clinic this afternoon, for another Xray.. so will let you know later…bye for now….xx

Oh no, Sandra, what a freak accident ! I can imagine the pain you were in, but you've made me smile with the description of the 3 of you being silent for 2 minutes. You must have been biting your lip the whole time. As for showering, try wrapping the area in cling-film, then plastic bag over that. I suggest you ask your daughter to be your hair stylist! Keep smiling ... OH says hope you didn't damage the hearth ... lol ! : o )))

15 Nov, 2010

Lol Shirley..thanks for the clingfilm suggestion, good idea...also I think Alison woiuld be the better choice of hair stylist..or even Thomas ! :o) You never know though,as Russ may have a hidden talent..NOT.Thank Michael for his concern about the Hearth..so thoughtful..It is fine..much tougher than my hand...Lol..:o ))
It was a bit comical in the Plaster room..and at least I had my Poppy on my coat too, even though I couldn't wear it afterwards...

15 Nov, 2010

sory to hear that bloomer... do hopeyou manage ok and it heals quickly...

15 Nov, 2010

What a nasty accident for you...I hope it is only a matter of a few weeks until your cast can be removed and your recovery is complete.

I've used plastic bags over a cast (broke my leg years ago and was in a cast from toe to hip for 9 months)...it does work, just slows you down a bit. In my case I had to put a chair in the bath and sit down with my leg extended onto a stool....quite comical....and then had to reach down to the bath water (no shower) to scoop up the water. I guess it will give you a laugh to try and picture the scene...laughter they say is the best medicine :)

Take it easy...hope you got on alright at the fracture clinic today with your re x-ray. No tripping the light fantastic now...easy as you go!

15 Nov, 2010

poor u Sandra...u will rember this rememberance day..he he ..sorry couldn't resist..:-)

15 Nov, 2010

So sorry to hear of your accident, falls happen so quick . I remember a couple of years ago fracturing my right wrist, and that was just stepping on to the lawn from the path, still don't know what i did. Just try to enjoy the rest, i'm sure your O H won't mind dressing you . lol.:o))

15 Nov, 2010

Its a bit extreme just to get out of hoovering and to be waited on hand and foot B hahaha ;0)) No its not funny is it? Hope you heal really quickly hun x

15 Nov, 2010

Oh dear I`m sorry to hear this and hope you get on alright at the clinic, I can imagine how painful that was, plus that sick feeling one gets whilst in a state of shock, can understand your relief that Russell is there to become the housekeeper for a while and sorry but have smiled at the thought of him becoming your dresser for a while,( you`ll be like her Majesty for a while, make the most of it and have fun, lol.)
One good point Sandra, you`ll catch up on anything you might have missed during the last few months.
I wish you a speedy recovery, and sending you a big hug, xx....

15 Nov, 2010

Sorry to hear about your accident Bloomer, one of my daughters broke her arm years ago, and I bought a plastic arm band with an elasticated seal, specifically for bath times and the shower, it makes a complete seal over your arm, you can even wash yourself with it on, they come in all sorts of size's. I'm sure you could get one at the pharmacy or ebay. It has been put to use many times since. Hope you get better soon.

15 Nov, 2010

So sorry to hear about this nasty accident, hope you will be fine very soon, told my OH about the two minute silence and he had such a laugh, he said what a lovely story, I broke my shoulder and my arm in two places in Madiera, Oh you should have seen my husband trying to do my hair, he hated it but he didn't mind helping to get my knickers on, Lol you take care, Russel will do everything he can to help you. xxx

15 Nov, 2010

Oh Sandra!.....you don't do things by half do you?.......It is obvious your have not "broken" your sense of humour.....that is good news!!!......You will have to buy Russell some hand cream to keep his pinkies in good conditon...all that washing up...cooking....ironing...cutting your toe nails for you.etc..etc....etcc.......Hope you enjoy having a "personal dresser"....I agree....best get Alison to do your hair....lol

Hope it heals up soon xxxx

15 Nov, 2010

15 Nov, 2010

Get well soon Sandra, must be something in the air with wrists, my friends daughter fell at home and landed on hers not broken thankfully but very badly sprained, my daughter sprained hers at college lifting a bag of feed for the animals on her own (silly girl) had a phone call from the first aid man asking if it was ok for him to bandage it as she's only 16 he had to have my permission!!!

15 Nov, 2010

Thank you all so much for your lovely comments..and you have all cheered me up and made me laugh, especially the saucy ones..Lol...I can manage my clothing fairly well..Except my bra..!..Sorry Russell, you have lost out ..again..:o))..and I have decided that trying to add break dancing to the many things 'to do' in retirement,is never gonna happen.Lol.
I didn't have to have an Xray today after all,and the Doctor was very pleased how the nurses had 'patched' me up,as he said it was a bad break.I have to keep the plaster on for a month..so go back on the 13th december...thank goodness,as we are going to Spain on the 22nd.I don't feel as restricted now,as I don't need to wear that b...sling.!
Hope my fingers look better by then,as they are like thick pork sausages..only black.Lol.
Alison and Thomas came for lunch today, and brought me a lovely bouquet of flowers...that made me fill up a bit..till she started laughing, and said "If you break any more bones,we will have to put you in a home"..Aren't children
so caring? Lol...Amyway,onwards and upwards,as Ba is always saying...and thanks again,my friends,it meant a lot to read your comments.Love you all.xx

15 Nov, 2010

Oh Bloomer! What a freak accident! I am so sorry to read this, and wish you the speediest of recovery my dearest friend.....Sending you tons of healing thoughts.....I hope that you get spoilt rotten by Russell and the family.....Lots of love to you from all of us on the Somerset blog XXXXXXX

15 Nov, 2010

Oh Sandra, your poor thing, it must have been so painful for you. OH broke a small bone in his wrist many years ago and I remember he was in a lot of pain with it. Take care and get well soon. xx

15 Nov, 2010

lol. Thanks Flori, and much appreciated. It is nice being waited on,and Russ and Family have been brilliant.I must admit it feels a bit alien, and I am doing things I am capable of,as I will soon get bored if I don't..but I know my limitations,so will try not to overdo it.We are going up to Alison's for tea on Thursday,so that will be nice.Going to miss giving Thomas a cuddle though..he is just such a little livewire now..

15 Nov, 2010

Thanks Sandra..its not much fun,as your OH knows. It could have been a lot worse though,so I am lucky,as I also banged my lower back as well,so have a massive bruise there too...thank goodness my hand took the worst of it,at least I can get about..X

15 Nov, 2010

I wish you a speedy and full recovery Bloomer. Do you believe in Complimentary Medicines? Comfrey is known as 'knitbone' and when I broke my wrist several years ago, I was advised to buy some comfrey cream and rub it into the skin at either end of the plaster. Don't know whether it was the cream or the power of positive thought but my wrist is recovered fully

Sorry to hear of your freak accident Sandra , these things happen so quickly ... try some Arnica for the bruise from Boots , it's very good , I hope you won't be in to much pain and will soon be better ... take it easy and let the family help you as much as possible .. ... xx

15 Nov, 2010

Sorry to hear of your accident. I hope you're not in too much pain. I hope it will not be long before you are back to normal again.

15 Nov, 2010

Oh Bloomer I hope you get better very soon.... a painful remembrance indeed....but no hoovering or ironing wow now let me see the coffee table, the hearth mmm maybe.......ah well perhaps not.....OH is just out of plaster himself and still hobbling so the timing would be all wrong :o)

15 Nov, 2010

Sorry to hear about your accident Bloomer and wish you a speedy recovery.

15 Nov, 2010

Hi Sandra, just come in and read your blog. Poor you, I know what its like to be in plaster, I broke a leg a few years ago. Oh the antics to get into the bath etc.... Anyhow, take care, love S.

15 Nov, 2010

Just try pulling on tights with one arm in plaster !!!!!! ;o\
Hope everything goes well for you and you have an enjoyable holiday.

16 Nov, 2010

Hope you are feeling better Bloomer a friend broke her wrist and chose a bright purple cast ......it was a lightweight resin one she said it wasn't too bad but was pleased when it came off!

16 Nov, 2010

Hi Sandra just logged on after a few days away , and what a shock reading your blog I have just emailed you! take care love Carole xx

16 Nov, 2010

Oh noooo, very sorry to hear about your fall Bloomer, but also rather amused at your description of hospital treatment. Reminds me of those cartoons where a character is hurt, but can't make a sound and has to run out of the room to shout OW! You will soon find a use for your knitting needles, only thing to get at the itch which will most surely come. Hope you're feeling ok now ? x :-)

16 Nov, 2010

Oh,~~****&*~~~. I had just replied to you all,and almost ready for posting..and my stupid plastered hand just hit a wrong key..and I ended up back on my home page...I'm sorry, but it took me so long, and I really couldn't do it all again..
Thank you all so much, for your very good wishes, remedy suggestions, and the humour..They mean a lot to me.
The doctor at the Trauma clinic was very pleased with how i was 'patched' up,and I will definitely not need an operation,as first thought,as it has been realigned very well....I should think so too, after all that tugging at my little finger..it hurt so much..I don't know if the gas and air helped the pain, but as I was incoherent..maybe that was the idea,so I couldn't swear at the lovely nurses..Lol.
As if I would...:o) The pot is hopefully coming off in a month,..13th December..going away on the 22nd..good timing eh ?.My 'good' fingers are not quite as swollen today, and moving a bit more freely,so thats good.Amazingly,I have slept really well, albeit in the spare bedroom,as didn't want to keep Russell awake..he needs
his sleep more now,its a hard life,...cooking cleaning, attending to my every need..we even got my hair done this morning..what a hoot..not too bad as it turned out..a new career for him, methinks.Lol.Seriously though,I do appreciate all that has been done for me..and I like it:o)).Once again,my friends,I am very touched at all your comments, you are all LOVELY...XXXX

16 Nov, 2010

just read your blog. Sorry for ur accident and hope u manage to relax! and get well soon!

16 Nov, 2010

Excuse me, Sandra, why isn't your PA typing for you ... lol! He's probably exhausted from doing the chores. I have visions of him fluffing up your hair in a very effeminate hairdresser kind of way, whilst not actually doing anything good to it! Bless him, I bet he dreams, alone, of returning to work! What are you covering up with to protect your arm in the shower? Pleased to hear it's not so painful now. Keep smiling. : o )))))))

16 Nov, 2010

Well, my dear,I HAVE to keep my fingers from seizing up, don't I ?.He has got a new hobby today..so won't want to go back to work...trying to fathom out how the Sky +HD works..Lol...i suppose he has earned a little bit of leisure time....about the shower.....think I may just get in the water butt, and leave the plastered arm hanging over the edge.I will take the chill off, with a few kettles full of hot water..:o)
Still smiling Shirley..:o))))

16 Nov, 2010

Thank you,Marydoll.that is kind of you..I am relaxing very well..Lol.

16 Nov, 2010

Ha ha ha Sandra, laughing out loud at the water butt comment! OH and our son are watching 'their' team live on TV and it's gone to penalties so I'm awaiting the shouts of joy or despair very soon! May just turn my music up a bit LOUDER to drown them out . . . . . . . .

16 Nov, 2010

You know Bloomer...you are so upbeat after your accident... love the comment about using the water butt...lol

16 Nov, 2010

17 Nov, 2010

I had same old boring toast Shirley..but Thomas was coming for couple of hours, while Alison went for her eye test..reason enough to be happy..:o)

17 Nov, 2010

I am keeping my fingers exercised Pam,,not sure I fancy a grubby shade of white..greyish even already...as nail varnish..Lol.what is it going to look like after a month? and the bandage is also fraying round the edges! You just can't get the quality these days..I don't recall my previous 3 plasters looking so tatty..yes 3! between the ages of 7 and 11..arm twice, and a leg..very clumsy kid.no change there then.except I should know better by now.Lol

17 Nov, 2010

Does that mean Bloomer that you will make an honest man of him!!!! Lol. (ps. I still hate the white dont you? I dont spend so much time on here anymore :~( thats why I miss so much! )

17 Nov, 2010

I said on another blog recently that everything is now much slower and I often ( like now) will just look at my news-- and then I 'cherry pick'...

18 Nov, 2010

That's what i do now too Pam, I think I'll have to bite the bullet and forget my paranoia...and have favourites..oh dear:-( Hello everyone \0/ I wonder why Pip doesn't want you to keep your OH bloomer? maybe she's got her eye on him herself:-0... explain yourself young Pip :-)

18 Nov, 2010

Lol Grandmage...let's not rush things....:o)I have actually got used to the white now,as it doesn't seem as bright as before...and matches my bandage over my pot very well..

18 Nov, 2010

I do that as well Pam...I'm ok with blogs and comments, but seem to miss quite a few pics now, which I am sometimes a bit late on noticing..my apologies to those of you I have missed...

18 Nov, 2010

\o/ Ba,..about time too..get me on NOW ! You can have treatment for your state of mind...but then again..commenting on the OTHER blog, may not be helping,so maybe you should just stay as you are..:o)
mmm,now there's a thought, about our young Pip, does she like older men? Is she going to be serious threat ? If I tell her,he has no money,it might put her off a bit...:o)

18 Nov, 2010

Bloomer....you've got me laughing! lol Pip is thousands of miles away and with no money forthcoming...can't see any threat on the horizon. Whew...are you relieved? :)

18 Nov, 2010

Well,Whistonlass,if one is determined enough, there are ways and means..only2 days travelling, and a credit card...no problem Lol...Its a small world, as they say.!
If you read this Pip,giving you a wave.\o/.:o))))))))))

18 Nov, 2010

Oh dear...a hint of doubt there, Bloomer :) Hi to Pip \o/

18 Nov, 2010

18 Nov, 2010

Oh dear, Bloomer, I just found this! What a horrible thing to happen to you. I do hope you have had a shower by now!!! lol ;)) Thank goodness for computers eh? What would we do with broken bones without the internet!!

18 Nov, 2010

I'm doing ok,thanks Karen,and managing quite well,much better than I thought...shower is still a bit of a daunting thought..but I have a good back scrubber...called Russell.Lol.Think I will be better in a bath,so going to my Daughters..only 5 minutes away..even with a good wash,it doesn't feel the same...

19 Nov, 2010

OH stealer, me??? No thanks..... didn't know where you were getting all these accusations from until I looked at the comments before mine. I meant your ANKLE, not your HUSBAND..... LOL!!!

19 Nov, 2010

19 Nov, 2010

Ohhhhh bummer - I seem to be digging myself into a very big hole - I'll make sure I'm fully awake next time!! (It's quite early over here in Syd, you realise! LOL.)

19 Nov, 2010

Methinks our Pip is going down the same road as our party girl Annella, what is it Pip...vodka? :-))))

20 Nov, 2010

I think it was the visit to Canberra that did it Pip...change of time zone,or air?...Fill the hole in my dear, all is forgiven :o))
Or then again, maybe you are right Ba..Pip and Annella seem to be very good friends...I can just see them staggering down that road together...sharing a bottle..:o))

20 Nov, 2010

I would be in between the two of them...they would be holding me up!! ;)

20 Nov, 2010

Thats nice Karen..'With a little help from my friends'in the words of the song :o))

22 Nov, 2010

Iam allowed to drink and type Pam..Only tea and coffee..can't understand why I get hiccups...I haven't looked for any gloves yet,as one of Russell's black socks stretches over the pot nicely..Lol..Only wear it when out walking though....but serves its purpose.:o))

22 Nov, 2010

Oh, poor Russell, with his one warm and one cold foot now!

22 Nov, 2010

Lol Shirley...that made me laugh..but what do you think I did with my unwearable magic stretchy glove ,also in black..? Would I let him have a cold foot? After all he has done for me ?...Never...! Share and share alike,so they say..whoever THEY are...:o))

22 Nov, 2010

Michael isn't talking to me since I laughed at the socks he's bought to wear to footie matches ... they have a Tog rating ... like a duvet ... should keep his size elevens warm tomorrow night then. : o )))

22 Nov, 2010

Ha ha Shirley...hope he can get his shoes on...and he will probably look taller,so will see over the ones in front of him, much better..:o))

22 Nov, 2010

I've only just seen this blog. sorry to hear of your injury Bloomer. Hope you're much betterby now.

Thinking about Remenbrance day made me think about part of a documentary I saw which talked about a chap injured in WW1.

We tend to think of the millions killed or those blinded or who lose limbs but in a sense otherwise recover. The story that sticks in my mind was a chap who was badly wounded overe a large area of groin in WW1 and still had an open wound there 18 years later when he died!

It's hard to even contemplate what that poor chaps life must have been like.

27 Nov, 2010

Anchorman..You sound like most of us,it seems to take a while to catch up sometimes..so no problem. It is so sad to hear of the suffering these brave people went through for all of us..not only ours, but world wide,..all someones loved ones,somewhere..My hand is much better, thank you..I am coping ok,just have to find another way of doing things..but will be glad to get the pot off..2 weeks to go..! ..Stay warm..:o))
