A few more daylilies

I was out seeing what was open today, and had to take a photo of the one I named after my grandmother: ‘Mable Esther Stutz’

Then, one of my favorite DIP spiders is also open: ‘Emmaus’. I am torn between using this to create large, spidery DIPs and going the opposite direction of making minis – flowers that are under 3" across.

A startling flower is [Dragon Dreams x (Beautiful Edgings x Feminine Fingers)]. At first look, I thought it was a TET since it has features other TETs of mine have. But when I looked it up and saw its parentage, it turns out to be a DIP. When making crosses, you have to know the ploidy of both flowers or it is a waste of time since they will never set seed. This is also something that comes up when trying to cross Amarylids.

In my last blog, I had a photo of (Blue Oasis x Watchyl Lavender Blue.

Here is its pod sibling, showing the genetic diversity in a single seed pod. This is one that is hard to get an accurate photo, for the colors on screen to match what I see in the ground. But I got lucky today with a bright natural light while the sun hid behind a cloud that was thick enough to not wash out the colors.

yes the genetics are very important but I guess Mother nature has had her own success with her TRI and TET varieties over the millennia. My daughters are very different too, blonde blue eyed , the other ginger green eyed but I know they are from the same 'pod' so to speak ;o)

You have raised some lovely plants.

I love the one youve named after your Grandmother, what a compliment.
