Just came in from a lot of strenuous gardening, when I looked out of the window to see a very strange part rainbow. The photo isn’t very good I’m afraid as I had to dash outside in my dressing gown, having had a nice hot shower.

A girl after my own heart, dashing into the garden, dressing gown clad, to take a photo :) I wonder if it's something to do with light hitting the cloud, Waddy, I seem to recall (goodness knows where from) something called a 'sundog' - just going to google it to see if I made that up!

No, I didn't invent it! Something to do with ice crystals and where the sun is - all a bit over my head I'm afraid :)

The times I've dashed out in night attire too,Julia:o) Glad you managed to catch it..I wonder,as Gee says,to do with Ice Crystals,as you would find out this morning, just how frosty it was..more noticable, just coming out of a hot shower! Lol

Thanks girls, glad I didn't shock you about my night attire lol!
Thanks Gee, looks like you're right...I never knew about such a thing.

Good on you for having a shower, if you'd had a bath you might have missed it Waddy and then we would have missed out as well, lol...........

I would have loved a log soak Linclass, but unfortunately we only have a shower :(

Lovely! I had a beautiful one outside my kitchen window today. Both ends of the perfect arc were in the field behind us. I've never seen one so close before! It was amazing.

Didn't you rush out to look for the gold Karen ?
We seemed to walk through one the other day .
Waddy , the sky was amazing this evening , such a sunset at about 5.15-5.30pm . I was taking Ted home in the car and their village is west facing . Even he said how beautiful it was and sighed !
Love your picture .

I quite like a log in my bath...very aromatic, especially the Pine! ;)

Occasionally seen a rainbow cloud, bit like yours but not as pink.....fascinating isn't it.....
OH has run out in PJ's chasing the heron from the koi pond.....so funny!

very unusual....well caught..:-)

I dashed out yesterday morning to put out the bins (forgot previous night and the men come early) clad only in PJs and fluffy leopard print dressing gown. I would never have dared when I was younger .... Is that another bonus of age?:-( Nice by the way:-)

18 Feb, 2015

I think it must be Ba!.......cheer the bin men anyway x

Lol Pam, I meant the pic was nice not the sight of me in my dressing gown, fortunately there was no-one around:-) :-)

I see this occasionally over here as well. I think it's sunlight refracting off of ice crystals but I'm not 100% sure. We studied this in 5th grade science class.

Yes it is formed from ice crystals of a particular shape. The rarest form is a rainbow in a complete circle which is called the eyeball of god. Another winter weather phenomena is thunder snow. I have seen a few of these in nor'easter blizzards. Also, I live in a Victorian home with quite a few lightning rods on the roof (was the fashion of that era ) as I was getting out of my car during a storm I saw electrical flashes like sparks on the tips of the rods but no instant cracks of thunder as would come from a close lightning strike. I later learned that what I saw was a once in a lifetime view of St. Elmo's fire. Viewing these occurrences does give one a thrill doesn't it, though watching my neighbor rushing out of her house in a baby doll nighty with camera in hand(these days to probably take a selfie) would probably top everything:)

Mother Nature can be quite scary when she puts her mind to it.....but creates beauty all around us too if we take the timeto see(gosh getting a bit deep now.....)

Karen, that's the scent of my air freshener. It's as close as I can get lol!

Pamg; You should have got a pic of that! You're so right about Mother Nature. The trouble is we're all so much in a rush these days, we fail to see what's under our noses...or up in the sky.

BA; I'll bet you made their day. I think you're right about it being a bonus of age. Most of us reach a point where we realise certain things really don't matter. Being caught in your PJ's is one. Make-up free face is another...for the ladies of course!

You're probably right, Bathgate but I never did like science lessons when at school...too boring, not like nowadays when they're filled with lots of wiz bang wallop!

Loosestrife; Wow! That sounds amazing, the St Elmo's Fire, not the neighbour.

19 Feb, 2015

Alas, I have no photos to photos of the natural phenomena that I have mentioned including my neighbor's natural phenomena.

Yes....I'm always rushing out in my night dress......oh dear, I promised myself I'd never share that.??

23 Feb, 2015

Boy, you must be a sight with a parrot on your shoulder, a pistol in your left hand, a sword in your right hand and an eyepatch, charging out in a pink baby doll with a skull and crossbones on it... Arrr.

23 Feb, 2015

Paul, the mind boggles lol!

24 Feb, 2015

Try not to think about it Waddy and Loosestrife.....U'll have nightmares!!
By the way, Loosestrife, you forgot my pink fluffy mules!!!!!

24 Feb, 2015

No, I'm wearing them:)

Ha ha.

I was enjoying all your comments but I had to look what the "dressing gown" is. HOUSECOAT! :-) We learn something everyday.

23 Mar, 2015

Lol Klahanie, now I look at 'dressing gown' it seems totally archaic! It's good look at words through someone else's eyes :-)

LOL....
I remember when it was a housecoat that I wore, now depending on whether I have just got up which is my dressing-gown or out of bath/shower then its a bathrobe, but refuse to wear grandma style slippers and prefer my clogs or flipflops..
Yep I'm getting old and now not embarrassed to answer the door in said attire where as years ago I would have been humiliated and hid until the caller went away.....
