Goodness Terra , your gardens a wildlife haven,
that butterfly is a Comma, looks like a tatty tortoiseshell but much more special, on its closed wings you see a tiny white comma, haven't seen them here for many years......

A great set of photographs TT and isnt it a joy to have the birds nest in your garden, well captured, did Hywel paint the card? do you think Spring has arrived?

You have done well with your camera Terra, all wonderful shots, isn't it great to see the bees returning and of course to actually see a butterfly, only saw a couple here last year, the birds are really enjoying all your shrubs, here the blackbirds are nesting in the conifers near the bottom pond, they are so busy collecting food from the patio, have my watchful eyes on the magpies that keep sitting in my willow tree, they raided my blackbirds nest a couple of years back so I keep trying to discourage them, not my normal practice as regards birds but I am making an exception as regards the magpies...A big hug for Conker for his birthday, he looks so well which is a joy to see when one thinks of all he went through, both Conker and Truffle are looking very handsome in the special photo....Hope you are keeping well in yourself, soon be springtime and hoping for lots of warm days to enjoy our gardens..xx

A lovely blog, Terra, so interesting. I have a bird box sited right near my ceanothus and I've already seen a blue tit checking it out though no activity yet. There are more than last year though which is exciting.
I'm going to have to do something about the greedy starlings though I'm at a lost as to know what. Any food I put out they crowd onto and eat what they can and, of course, the small birds won't go there when the feeders are that busy.

The other day in my garden I noticed a long-tailed tit with a mouthful of nesting material, so I hope to see more of those soon.

Glad your snow didn't last and the warm spring weather was back in time for Conker's birthday picture shoot! your handsome boys posed as beautifully as ever, do hope the Long Tailed Tit takes possession of one of your prime location houses - or have they all been occupied by the Blue Tits? :o) xxxx

Unfortunately I think my new bird boxes were put up too late to be chosen by birds this season, but certainly there are signs of birds collecting nesting materials to take up into the trees, and the blackbird family is doing very well.

I checked on eBay, Avis, but there are now fence feeders now - did you buy the last one? At least nothing that would be suitable for my garden - yet. There are one or two cats around too, plus the hovering sparrowhawk so all feeders have to be camouflaged as best I can. Still, there's hope.
