April Love

Up above, the robin is ready to start nesting …
… he sings his April song …

♫ ♬ April love is for the very young
Every star’s a wishing star that shines for you
April love is all the seven wonders ♪ ♫ ♬
One little kiss can tell you this is true.

…………………………………………………………………..

Down below, my back garden is in springtime mode …

…………………………………………………………………..

… Truffle needs ‘artistic lawn space’ for piano playing …

……………………………………………………………………

… and Conker likes to practise his tricks on the grass …

… he’s received a special invitation to perform outdoors, very soon, in front of a large audience …

Conker knows all his routines … easy peasy …

… but Bart Simpson is new from the charity shop, so the little yellow fellow requires rehearsals …

……………………………………………………………………

Last autumn, I revamped my front garden …

… no weedy lawns now … all recycled pavings …
interspersed with plants and pebbles …

It’s fun watching the flowers coming through …

To be honest, I’m relieved to see the springtime plants looking happy and healthy …

… there were times when I wondered if I’d been wise, to make such a drastic transformation …

……………………………………………………………………

I included anemones because I’ve been told they were my grandmother’s favourite flowers …

I never met her, but I like to think of her when I see these in bloom …

…………………………………………………………………….

All day, the robin persists with his delightful tunes …

♪ ♫ Sometimes an April day will suddenly bring showers …
Rain to grow the flowers for her first bouquet ♫ ♬
But April love can slip right through your feathers ♪ ♫
So if she’s the one, don’t let her fly away …

…………………………………………………………………….

… ‘April Love’ is a well-known song …

… but, surely, love is not exclusively for the young …

… it’s for everyone of any age who enjoys gardens …

… and friends … pets … family … flowers … trees …

… cobbles … clouds … blossom … and blue skies …

I love Robin and his song together with that wonderful blue sky, nice also to see Truffle getting a new act together and we must be patient and wait to see what Conker has in store for us ... hope we don`t have to wait too long.
I definitely think the new front garden was the right idea, its a show stopper and it must give passersby great pleasure.
Thanks for your PM Terra, nice to know people care and I`ve just been catching up and notice you have been ill with a virus hope your on your way to recovery.

Its fun for us too Terra. Its always good to see what is happening in everyone else's garden and you definitely have the gold standard to inspire us all. I'm sure Bart will do his best to keep the Team Terra standard as good as usual. Your postman and other visitors must go away with a lighter heart when they see this explosion of colour.

A super blog TT. Your front garden is looking amazing. Hope you're feeling better these days, now that the sun is shining a little longer and a little warmer :)

Your front garden looks wonderful

Thanks everyone for your lovely comments ...
I'm feeling a bit better, thanks, but I still keep coughing ... anyone might think I'm a chain-smoker... but I've never had a cigarette ... ever !

Yes, Brian, I'll report back about Conker's tricks performance ... among my front garden flowers, there are some Cherry Ingrams doing well from the original plant you kindly sent to me.

i love to see Truffles concentration play his piano

good luck and all good wishes for Conkers big day
may the sun shine down on you?

Your front garden looks stunning! I can see the appeal of getting rid of grass, I keep trying to thin mine out. I never sit on it, it's a pain and full of mouse/mole holes and you have to cut it! I can also see the attachment to the Anemones, I have Lily-of-the-valley for one Grandmother, Pansies for the other and both my sister and I have the annoying blue Centaurea Montana, just because out Mother always grew it! Very pretty when out, flops about a lot and seeds everywhere!

Thanks, Pam ...
My front garden flowers have emerged better than I could have hoped ..
Truffle loves his piano ...
For Conker's tricks performance, I've chosen routines with props which are hopefully waterproof !

Thank you Honeysucklegold ..
Maybe you can replace some of your patchy grass with recycled pavings.. and leaves some gaps to plant your 'family favourites' ... Lily of the Valley, Centaura and Pansies !

It has the WOW!!! factor Terra and has certainly worked for you, they have all come on so well, do you get sunshine in the front as well as the back?.
I love the pics of Conker and Truffle practising and hope the weather is good on the day I feel sure the performance will be well appreciated but the sunshine will help bring in the people.
Smashing blog as usual Terra....

Hi Sue ... thank you ... in the summer, my front garden gets sun most of the day, from early in the morning. The sun is in my back garden from about mid-day.

Conker is all ready to perform his tricks ...
yes ... fingers crossed for dry weather !

19 Apr, 2015

Good point Terra, you don't want soggy dolls?

I do like your front garden and Truffles.

19 Apr, 2015

April love -- my how that takes you back!
I never would have believed your front garden would look like that, and so soon! You certainly have the magic touch Terra.

19 Apr, 2015

Hi Tt, that looks fantastic, I would love to get rid of my grass too, but if I did I would have to terrace the garden, as it's on too much of a slope, and I'm not as young as I was, and don't fancy all the work involved.
Looks as though youhave great fun with conker and truffles, you must have them very well trained, Derek.

19 Apr, 2015

Hi Derek ...
Thanks... Could you perhaps remove just a few carefully selected areas of grass, to reduce the amount you have to mow ... and put in a few small pavings and rockery type flowers ?

The large pavings I used were recycled ... I smashed up each one into smaller sections ... mostly because I couldn't lift them when they were whole !

Yes.. my dogs very much enjoy all their 'props' ... they always want to be the first in line to have fun with tricks practice time .. friendly rivalry !

19 Apr, 2015

Your revamp looks stunning Terra. You had me thinking about(and singing)April Love.....Pat Boone....Ahhh memories......

20 Apr, 2015

Thanks Val ...
I wish I could have heard your singing !

20 Apr, 2015

Hi Tt, I suppose I could, but I tend to prefer larger beds, and just putting paving here and there doesn't really appeal to me, I think they need to be co-ordinated, but I will have to do something to give myself more planting space, I keep on buying plants, then think about where I'm going to put them, and very rarely think about how big they're going to get, but I do tend to get a bit fed up with plants when I've had them a few years, and fancy a change, that's why my garden is never finished, I think it would be sooo boring, to see the same plants year after year, after year, so I will give it some thought, Derek.

I'm just catching up again Terra! Looking at your blog really cheers me up and your front garden looks amazing ! What a clever and very hard working lady you are ! I just had to put it in my "favourites" so that I can look back at it on a dull day ! xxx

21 Apr, 2015

Hi Derek ..
sounds like if you need more planting space, some selected parts of your grass area might have to go... to be replaced by a small amount of terracing... you wouldn't need to change all of it ... heavy tasks are not easy as you get older ...
... and you're right .. gardens are never finished !

Thanks, Rose for putting my blog on your favourites. This type of transformation isn't really work for me ... more like fun ... work is housework .. Lol. x x x

21 Apr, 2015

Fantastic effect of stones and flowers Terra. So much more pleasing to the eye than grass.

22 Apr, 2015

Hi Klahanie ..
Thanks .. I'm very much enjoying my newly planted areas with the pebbles and flowers.

22 Apr, 2015

You are so right Terra !

24 Apr, 2015

Thanks Paul ..
I'm glad you like the colours.

Your garden is very pretty TT. It's nice to see your hard work showing results.
Conker and Truffle are enjoying themselves :) That's good.
