Thank you so much for the website - I've looked at it and it has some good advice! I'd really like to see them, but haven't had any luck yet as they don't advertise their timetable...:-) We have no idea where their sett is, so we should be safe legally.

It's the 'RHS Encyclopaedia of Gardening' and it is SOOO comprehensive! (I also treated myself to the 2-volume A-Z of Plants and Flowers... in an extravagant moment! ) However, they came from Amazon at a very good price, so I didn't feel too guilty. They are well worth having.

Sorry - I give up on this one! Had a try at your others, but have looked all through my houseplant book for this one - no luck. Maybe someone else has one?? Glad you found the site, great, isn't it!

On question - What is this?

Could possibly be one of the Dracaena group. They are called 'False Palms' in my book.

On question - And this...

Hi Stewart - Picture looks like Lady palm - but can't be sure. If so, does not like being repotted too often, needs good drainage, mist occasionally, sponge mature leaves and avoid draughts. Prefers soil to be moist not wet especially in winter.

On question - And this...

Reading my RHS book tells me you need a balance of oxygenating plants to keep algae out, and water clear. Also, the plants should cover more of the surface by the sound of it. To help, you can apparently buy a PH watertest kit to help you check the balance. Keep getting the blanket weed out on a stick. Hope this helps.

Ajay got here first - same answer, Go for it!

I actually know how to do this! You go to your account - 'view my account'... click on 'update my profile'...then 'add a photo of your choice'... easy!

Sounds beautiful - hope the weather lasts and have a happy day. Look forward to seeing your photos!

I'll try my beautiful 'Aztec Pearl' which has done so well in a large pot - and I'll look at my bonariensis to see if there are any suitable shoots! I shall try the other varieties too, I guess my greenhouse is going to be full of cuttings!

It's supposed to be - but with some protection e.g. straw over the top during cold weather. It is more purple than pink, darker than the Seabrook one.

I'd like some advice as to how, please Holly, because I do like it and would like spares in case it succumbs during the winter!

We've got an incinerator in the work area where my greenhouse lives, and we had a hard two days chopping and burning the escallonia hedge and the encroaching brambles from the farm field over the back - so my tomato plants got well and truly burnt - and my fringe got scorched! It went up like a rocket! The good news is that WHEN my husband has managed to hack out the roots, I shall be able to design and plant a new border, backed by a trellis. What fun! - purple, gold and white, I think... White Solanum? mmm.

Which verbenas have you got? Which ones can you take cuttings from? I'd like to have a go. They are such lovely plants.

Hi Rachel. Need more information about your plant to help. Is it the large leaved, upright rubber plant type (Ficus elastica) or is it one with small leaves, the weeping sort (Ficus benjamina)? They need different treatment. There's also a trailing version...Is it possible to post a photo of it if you haven't got the plant label?

This was my first visit to the show. It really lived up to expectations, with lots to admire.and to buy!! I enjoyed looking at the student gardens, all so different but so imaginative. The 'Wow' factor was in the Floral Marquee, where growers exhibit their perfect plants. Most had plants for sale, and were helpful and knowledgeable. A wonderful day out.
