Dorset delights - part one.

We spent a few days in Dorset last week, a bit of a last-minute idea but weather was mild and dry on the whole.

Our pine lodge was clean & comfortable, very peaceful, set in woodland & surrounded by lakes.

OH had the foresight to buy a bag of bird seed … proved popular with the wildlife!

Driving down to Lulworth Cove was definitely worth it … out of season but still fairly busy. Loved this thatched cottage.

The cove was just as we remembered it from a visit a few years ago.

After we had sat and eaten our ice creams it was time to drive back along the Jurassic coast back to our lodge.

We visited a couple of gardens during our stay in Dorset … part two to follow soon. My digital camera broke just before we set off … so I bought a cheap Panasonic one in Dorchester and just had to ‘point & shoot’ until I have studied the manual! Thank goodness the photos made it to my computer without too much bother.

Ah! Childhood memories of Durdle Door!

That looks a smashing place to visit, I could enjoy myself in a setting like that Shirley and the local residents certainly appreciated hubby's thoughtfulness, lovely photo's of the birds and the views of the coves are a sight for sore eyes on such a bleak day, gives one a yearning, lol, looking forward to seeing more photo's....
Incidentally most of my shots are point, shoot and hope for the besr even after all these years and studying the manual.....

It's a long while since we were there too,Shirley..we were staying in Weymouth at the time..Your lodge looks lovely, and looks like Michael is busy in the kitchen! :o)
I love Lulworth Cove, and Durdle Dore One of my neighbours and her OH were stationed there in the war..all very hush hush at the time....I'm glad you had a lovely time, and those little birds might have followed you home, wondering where their food supply had gone Lol.

Oops!! I hadn't noticed him there, I certainly never trained my hubby right, I wouldn't dare let him loose in someone else's kitchen without supervision, forgot to say I love the chocolate box cottage....

What a lovely break Shirley - great choice. Dorset is such a beautiful, peaceful county. (My parents lived on the edge of Poole when I was at Bournemouth College and Lulworth and Durdledoor were favourite spots. Studland Bay too!)

Gorgeous! Great idea for a short holiday. That cottage is so so pretty! I love being in woodland....quite envious. The lodge looks ever so cosy and comfy too!

Looks like a nice get-away. What I wouldn't do for a weekend at a place like that!

Never been to Dorset though we have stayed often in Exmouth further along the coast. It looks beautiful, and what a great lodge you had - somewhere good to stay can make all the difference to a break can't it? Your bird pics are great - modern cameras are so forgiving it makes you wonder if all the technical stuff is worth the effort these days.

Well, thank you all for looking in and leaving such lovely comments! We realised yesterday that it was nine years ago when we stayed at Warmwell, pleased to say not too many new houses have been built in those years, but Weymouth & Portland hosted part of the 2012 Olympic water sports so some new roads and supermarkets are in place.

Plenty of agricultural land, with many fields for animals to graze make it a pretty county to explore. No, I don't work for the Tourist Board, just like to talk about Dorset!

We watched plenty of folk walking up the steep slope for a view of Durdle Dore, took my breath away just seeing them!

Oh yes, Michael was making a cuppa and a sandwich when I took that photo, nothing too taxing ... lol!

What a super place you found there. How clever of you to think of taking some wild food with you! Lovely scenery too. As for photos...mine are all point and shoot!

Thanks for reading this blog Waddy ... it wasn't until we unpacked the few groceries we had brought with us that I spotted the bag of bird seed ... I did wonder if OH thought he'd pass it off as muesli for me!

Plenty of thatched cottages in Dorset ... really quaint ones too. :o)

A favourite county of ours too, we were going to retire to Dorset many moons ago, love your pine lodge, on my favourites......pleased you had a lovely time Shirley.

The lodge looks lovely and welcoming and the surrounding area perfect for exploring, a nice selection of feathered visitors too! I have had the pair of Longtail tits back today, I have a small tree in the front garden where I hang bird feeders and can sit and watch the visitors from the lounge. Going to have a look at part two now;0))

Angela - I think Dorset is much less built-up than Hampshire or Sussex - it was a joy to drive through miles of countryside without seeing retail parks or housing estates!

Carole - I thought of you and Lovey & Dovey yesterday when a Collared Dove came into the garden - not seen one for a couple of years. This morning there was a pair of Goldfinches on the feeder - they must have known I filled it up with Sunflower hearts yesterday!
