LINDSEY'S KIDNEY STONES

As some of you are aware, my daughter Lindsey was recently admitted to hospital with kidney stones. It it now two weeks on, and she had her follow-up appointment with the Consultant today. She was x-rayed and they confirmed the kidney stones had gone! She’s not aware of having passed them so maybe they disintegrated with the drugs she was given and just passed through. They’ve taken more blood for specific tests such as checking her urea and calcium levels to see if preventions can be taken to stop stones forming again and/or prevent gout in the future. She’s been discharged from hospital care and fingers crossed, that’s the end of it all.

Thanks to everyone who enquired about her. I found the concern overwhelming!

Sheila

How amazing are our bodies in conjunction with some medication... I had the same problem some years ago with Gall Stones,,,Got my self all ready to face an operation and hey presto they've gone.

Glad all is well and you can relax a little.

All the best for her Sheilar - I have suffered with these and the pain was awful - couldn't sit still. I was in hospital too - mine were amino acid stones - caused I think by pure orange juice drinks and also too much salt in diet. I had lasertripsy op too to remove a blocked one. Lemon juice is a good remedy for keeping them dissolved I have found and one drop of cider vinegar in half pint of water every now and then. I hope she gets over these horrid things - just tell her to drink 2half to 3 litres of water a day (with some lemon juice) :))))))))))))))))))

All the best

Thank you TT and Libet for your kind wishes.

Seaburngirl - the docs have said she may never get them again! (no guarantees though eh?)

Grannyb - as she wasn't aware she'd passed them, she was getting herself all geared up for an operation, then like you, hey presto they've gone!

Paul - as she is a staff nurse in a VERY busy young acute psychiatric hospital, she says she never gets time to stop and have a drink, the ward she is on is very hot and the consultant says she has to make the time to stop and drink. After all, when you're in a hot country, you are advised to drink plenty of water! I shall pass on your advice about the lemon juice and cider vinegar.

Brilliant news Sheila...I didn't know about Lindsey's stones, but that's fantastic that they are gone, and I hope the Lemon juice keeps them at bay. Horrible thing I can only imagine, and thanks Paul for giving me another good reason to cut down on salt!

Glad she's on the mend Sheila. Relief all round eh?

Costas, Lisal and Meadowland - thanks for your good wishes

Karensusan - yes, apparently one of the causes of this can be too much salt

You're right there Julia. I never eat salt (not even on chips) and never add it to cooking, I can therefore spot salt in products a mile off and my 'side effect' of eating salt is a raging thirst. I've never been able to eat salt, just don't like it.

I didn't know about this sheilar, but am very pleased for both of you ,whatever your childs age (even as an adult) its still a worry.

Exactly Rose, even though she's 34, she's still my baby. Apparently they can occur at any age. There was a nine year old boy in A & E at the same time with suspected kidney stones!
