Autumn sunshine in the garden today

As you know, I’m not very good at photography … perhaps slightly better at gardening (or at least choosing plants, ha ha). I’m delighted with this Amelanchier – so much better than the puny specimen we had in our previous garden.

And very glad to have this Cercis canadensis Forest Pansy

I’ve been enjoying taking cuttings of Penstemon, Abelia, Physocarpus, Phlox and Salvia

Delighted to see Viburnum ‘kilimanjaro’ flowering again – I didn’t know it did that :)

Also very surprised to see this first sign of blossom on Prunus Autumnalis

Let’s hope we’ll have a few more sunny autumn days to enjoy the wonderful leaf colours.

Lovely Autumn colours on your shrubs. I wish Apple and Pear trees had colourful Autumn leaves instead of dull brown ones.

I have to agree with Bloomer the Amelanchier is particularly lovely. Perhaps I might have room for one in my new garden...wherever that turns out to be. I've not taken any cuttings this year just yet, but I do have a couple of Fuchsias I'd like to take with me, so perhaps I'd better get cracking

Thanks Sandra, Siris and Julia. Julia - there’s always room for an Amelanchier!

Some lovely coloured shrubs there. A lot of plants seem to be having a go at second flowering this year, & some going on & on. Let's hope for some more sunny days before the winter really sets in.

Thank you Josee.

I'm very envious of your cercis and amelanchier. Your Autumn garden is full of cheering shades.

Thank you for your lovely comment Ange 🙂.

Two standout trees there, looks lovely I think the cercis has to to be one of the best trees for the foliage especially in the Autumn, I work for a bloke who has one, and every year as soon as they fall I have to rake them up which is a shame as when they lay scattered on the lawn they look so beautiful ,however this year I have finally got my way and they will stay for a while, I brought a Amelanchier some years back and it too was very disappointing.

Thanks Julien. My first Amelanchier was also disappointing - apparently they need masses of water in their first year to thrive, but we don’t get told that do we? I’m glad you were able to persuade the owner to leave the leaves of the Cercis on the ground ... they are so attractive.

lovely colour going on in your garden Sheila. our Amelanchier is also a good colour this year as is the large beech tree in the back garden.

its always a treat when shrubs put on a second flush of flowers isn't it?

Thanks Eileen. Yes, late flowers are a welcome bonus 🙂.

Lovely autumn colours Sheila, I lost my huge Amelanchier but have replaced it as it was always a favourite of mine, pleased to say although still small it is doing well, obviously picked the right year to replace it as I didn't have to water it myself, lol....

Wow so autumn is here already! Love the fiery autumn colors your trees display. Very striking contrast against the deep green.

Many thanks Sue and Paul!

Lovely Autumnal shades in your garden Sheila. I have been watching the TV programme 'Garden Rescue' and have noticed the Rich brothers use Amelanchiers a lot.

I am still trying to find a small Crabapple tree with yellow fruits but the ones I have seen all look a bit unloved!

Thanks ... I’m not surprised about the Rich brothers, Shirley. Amelanchiers are frequently mentioned as “ideal for small gardens” as they do enhance a garden for nine months of the year 🙂.

Sheila, no wonder it's a favourite of theirs then!

Lovely colours in your garden Sheila, and I like to see people taking plenty of cuttings, I hope they do well for you :)
You have some shrubs I always enjoy, in particular Amelachier and Prunus autumnalis, I had them in a previous garden.

Many thanks Hywel .. taking cuttings is fun, especially when they work 🙂.

Lovely autumnal colour, Sheila! Your cercis is a real beauty, loving the leaf shape too! Your cuttings are looking healthy and off to a great start!

Thank you Kate ... there’s plenty to enjoy at this time of year. And I went OUT today and played croquet with a friend ... my social life is looking up, ha ha 🙂.

That is really lovely to hear, Sheila! Good for you! I’m guessing you had an enjoyable game with good company! Hoping you have more days like this 🤞😀

You’re right Kate, thanks. Well I lost, but my friend really enjoyed it! 🙂🙂
