two week break

Well I have been without the use of my PC for nearly two weeks. It froze on me and although I tried all the usual ways; ie: pressing every button on the keyboard, it refused to come back to life. I felt lost without it, as I keep in regular touch with my family who are scattered around the globe, and my friends, ditto. I seem to be the only one who has stayed in the UK, although I have lived in different parts of the country.
Eventually we did get a spark of life from it and were able to run the disc trouble shooter, thanks to the advice of a friend. But it was still a bit temperamental. I suppose I should learn how to do these things, but I use the washing machine and drive a car without knowing how the innards work.
Then I had a phone call from my son to say he was coming over for a long weekend. I was so pleased, not only would I have him at home for a while but also as he needs to use the computer while he is here I knew my computer troubles were over.
So I am back in touch with ‘the world’ and can also catch up with the photos and blogs on GOY.
I have been planting some daffodil bulbs this week. When the daffs were out last year we had quite a few gaps so we marked them out. We have quite sandy soil which is a haven for ants and they disturb the soil around the bulbs and roots of plants making air holes. I am assuming this is what causes the softening of the bulbs and why some of our plants just keel over. Any ideas on this would be welcome.
Maybe I am being too early planting bulbs but while the ground is moist I thought I would get it done as we are due for the autumn high winds and tides and the ground dries out very quickly in those conditions.
I have been doing some shopping for christmas. Already!!!! I like to get the presents for overseas as soon as I see anything suitable. Then I post in October to be sure they get their gifts for Christmas.
This is what we are expecting. Luckily we live five minutes walk away.

Hi Bobq, thanks for the welcome back. The photo was taken just down the road from us on Rhyl prom. At the moment it is blowing very hard and with a high tide coming we should see the same high waves. But it is also raining very heavily so no pics from today.

I'm glad your computer is working again. You must be so relieved.
I enjoy planting bulbs but I must say Christmas really gets on my nerves.

Shame on you Hywel, Christmas is a great time of the year. It helps to break up the dreariness of winter.

Ah Rhyl prom yes I remember that from my misspent youth hehehe my old gran had a caravan on the camp by the Clwyd just down Marsh road at Rhuddlan, later she moved it to Pensarn near Abergele the worse thing she ever did.

Glad to have you back with us, it'll take a while to catch up!
I'm not keen on Christmas either Hywel but with a large family all nearby I can't escape!

Hi Bobq, your old gran would not know the prom now at Rhyl. The funfair has gone and most of the old buildings. We have apartments now right along the front. The sea view from the High street has disappeared, and we have a lot of fantasy buildings there, called a children's village. But there is not that much there for children. Although we do have nice gardens.

I used to remember getting off the train at Rhyl station and then crossing the road outside and going to catch a bus in the Crossville bus station that went in opposite the station and came out on the main road, last time I was there the bus station had gone and was a poundshop I think and the main road was pedestrianised.

The bus station now is right outside the railway station. It has just been renewed and we are all wondering where the 'renewal' is. They seem to have just made all the bus shelters into one long curved one. We are waiting now for the high winds to blow away all the people waiting in it, as they have created a wind tunnel. So if anyone lands in your garden, put them on a train back to Rhyl please. It won't be me as the bus station is a 15 minute walk away.

And .... Oh! My! I must tell you this one .... I used to take my fishing rod down to the muddy bank close to what I used to call the double bridges, (I think it used to be called Fordd bridge am I right?) And when the tide was going out and running fast we fished for plaice and dabs on the river bottom, mostly we caught eels but sometims we had a nice plaice for tea.

There's still fishing going on there, don't know if anyone catches anything. But I suppose they must if they still keep going there. The Forydd Bridge or Blue Bridge still there too. At the moment there are plans made for a pedestrian/cycling bridge alongside it but as Kinmel Bay on one side is in Conwy and Rhyl on the other is in Denbighshire, long discussions are being held. We'll most probably need a new bridge altogether by the time they agree. But the marina is being extended too, so nothing will happen in the near future. We moved here five years ago and all that has happened is the fair has been demolished. We are waiting for the building to begin of the 'Ocean Plaza'. Hotel, apartments, and shopping mall.

Wow big changes there then? (and I was nearly right with the bridge name)
