frogs!

Have you every gone out of your way to asked a question. And before you’ve finished asking it felt really foolish………….
I’ve spent months looking after a bucket full of tadpoles, only to wonder why in July their are still tadpoles. I went into the local aquarium center to ask if there was any thing I could feed them on which would help them mature. The man looked at me as if I was MAD- its a natural process it will take as long as it takes!
Got home and the little girls came round from next door, after looking at my fish we started to catch the tadpoles. And found sitting on the end of my finger the most perfectly formed little frog, guess he was right, the others may be still tadpoles but some just take a while!

Had a day doing the house work yesterday………….
cleaned out the pond filter, strung up a climbing frame for the beans, put a tap onto an old dustbin so I can use it as a water butt, redid the flower pots next thing I know its school picking up time and the house work still hasn’t been done!
Where does the time go………

oh this happens alot to me too. The tadpoles need to be eating a meat diet to make the hormones in enough amounts to become froglets. Have the taddies got back legs yet? if yes then they will soon become fully formed frogs. They are great arent they.

I always thought they didn't eat while tadpoles! Something about their food being provided in their tails. but lately we have been feeding them with fish food just to see them. yes agree they are wonderful, would love newts as well!

they eat the empty egg case when they first hatch , then they eat plants for a week or two and then move onto animal based food. They do reabsorb their tail but they often come out onto land with a stump of a tail. I used to have them in a shallow tank as a child. I used to be really pleased when i could release them into the area where I got them from.

My house is a mess and the garden pretty much immaculate!! Gardening over housework everytime, except when I have guests and I do the house very reluctantly!!
Isn't it amazing how perfect a baby frog is!
