hi guys a bit down in the dumps today, work on the new area is slow, my sons get up and go has got up and gone lol, so hoping to get a bit more digging done saturday and sunday fingers crossed, not been well so ive not ventured out since sunday,
so today i decided as i cant dig then i can shop, yes plant shopping hahah
well this morning started me off as my bananna plant came from ebay, not quite as leafy as said but new shoots coming, so a bit of TLC should do the trick

as you can see casper had to inspect the plant, as he thought no bananna`s on this one lol,
so after this i took myself off to B&Q to get a couple of ferns i had seen last week and thought they would look good in the new area to,

above is japanese shield fern (Dryopteris erythrosora)
next pic is holly fern (Cyrtomium fortunel)

then i had to get this yucca ive wanted for ages now

so thats it,, or is it , nah! i did pop in morrisons this morning and what did i see,, yes this lovely cordyline australis “red star” couldnt resist it, well whats a girl to do :o))) im a happy bunny now

just need the area finished now, so these beauty`s will stay in garage till bad weather gone, hope you all had a good day to :o) x

B & Q are very good for Ferns, Cordylines and Yuccas and good prices too. I can see a wonderful tropical paradise developing this summer. Well done, and hope all goes well.

24 Feb, 2010

What a great way to cheer yourself up, Sanbaz. I went to a garden centre today, next to the eye clinic I had to attend. Unfortunately (or fortunately!) I couldn't see too well because of the drops in my eyes so I didn't buy anything :)

We may be having a Dobies opening near here and the gc I visited is trying to oppose it. Don't know much about Dobies but it sounds a good idea to me to have a bit of healthy competition :)

24 Feb, 2010

This secret garden is going to be a nice surprise when we see it,Sandra..take your time,Rome wasn't built in a day,but we want things done like yesterday, when
we get an idea don't we? So impatient,us gardeners...x

24 Feb, 2010

Bloomer never a true a word said than that :o))

24 Feb, 2010

Gee we have a dobbies they have lovely plants and things, a bit more expensive sometimes but none the less a good GC, hope your eyes feel more normal soon ;o)) x
sandra your right but im one who wants yesterday im affraid lol, but it should all be lovely for summer ;o) x

24 Feb, 2010

The GC Dobies will be in competition with is very expensive anyway, Sanbaz, and makes me cross because they let plants die rather than reduce the price or care for them properly! My lovely coprosmia was one of several reduced to £10 before Christmas. The others are now all dead although the GC has greenhouses where they could have been sheltered. If they had been cheaper others might have bought them. It makes me so cross :(

I had a 'bump' removed from my eyelid so it's a bit sore at the moment but, apart from that, it was just a routine check for glaucoma - all OK :)

24 Feb, 2010

Wow, you have some nice plants their Sandra. I can feel your frustration at wanting to get stuck into your new bed. Hopefully you wont have to wait too long before you're setting. So when are you expecting to be picking your first bunch of banana's ;-)

24 Feb, 2010

glad all ok Gee, with your eye, :o) well dobbies dont have bad plants at least the one here anyway, so sounds like it would be a good idea for your area.

24 Feb, 2010

lol dawn, dont think even if they grow that you can eat these, ive just repotted so not sure if to take the yellowy leaf off or leave it, think my other plants should be ok in garage dont you :o))

24 Feb, 2010

Not sure about the leaf Sandra?
Will the plants get day light in the garage - just thinking if its dark in there all day they wont like it.

24 Feb, 2010

the bananna is indoors on window ledge dawn so thats fine, also the other plants in garage window so lots of light there to, i thought the ferns maybe ok outside cause thats where they were at B&Q and quite hardy arent they

24 Feb, 2010

I hate waiting to Plant out Plants 2 San when its 2 be done :/

24 Feb, 2010

A couple of excellent ferns there Sanbaz. The dryopteris is known as the autumn fern because the fronds take on a golden colour before turning green

thanx dotty they sure did the trick ;o))

24 Feb, 2010

Hi San, sorry you've not been well, great plants you got there, love the ALL of them, especially the ferns!
Don't worry about the banana, it's normal this time of year, it'll pick up in Spring.
Oh, and as a rule of thumb I've noticed that most edible banana flower stalks hang DOWN and the inedible ones (including m . basjoo) stand UP..

24 Feb, 2010

Sorry you've been unwell, Sandra - and glad that you're a little better now. Take care of yourself - very good move to buy some plants! That's always a pleasure, isn't it. :-))
