A Plant Sale for RAG

I am involved with trying to raise funds for the Reservoir Action Group in Cardiff (see www.llanishenrag.com)

An American company, Western Power Distribution, (WPD) own two reservoirs in Cardiff, which used to supply water to industries in the city, but they are not needed for that purpose anymore. For ten years, WPD have been trying to get permission to build on them, and in turn, the residents of Cardiff have been trying to protect them. They are a haven for wildlife and were also used for a sailing school and for fishing. There is also a nature reserve adjacent to the reservoirs, and this has also been under threat.
Last year, WPD drained the reservoir, on the grounds that “the infrastructure needed to be checked”. This meant the loss of habitat to much wildlife including fish, toads, herons and so on.
There have been many battles in the courts over the last ten years and we have now reached the stage where the reservoir embankment has been described as a listed building (the biggest one in Wales!) If this is confirmed it will make it difficult for WPD to build there. In July, there is yet another Inquiry with expensive legal representation on either side. We need to raise £20k this summer to cover the fees.
Rachel and I decided to hold a plant sale. She produced lots of lovely vegetables and herbs. I concentrated on flowers.

Here is Rachel in our drive. We had a lovely day for the sale last Friday….since then we have continued to sell some stuff and have raised £150 so far.

Every little helps, as they say! Wish us luck :))

Well done both of you - it's amazing what you can do isn't it ? I hope you manage to save your reservoir site as it's so important to stop all these wildlife areas being built on - they just make less and less green areas don't they ? Good Luck
