artificial light

my veg plot is about 30 metres from a sodium street light and gets dimly lit at night.whilst i get good crops of my greens ive never had any luck with soft fruits/tomatoes.do they need pitch black through the night?

At such a distance the artificial light level is so low as to be insignificant. They don't need pitch black nights. They do need to be disease-free, free from bugs, in the right soil, in strong light with consistent warmth and well fed.
