Small Harvest

I just took a wander down our garden while wondering what to do for dinner tonight – and there it all was! There’s plenty more produce to come, but tonight’s dinner will consist of a tomato and basil salad with corn-on-the-cob smothered in butter (of course!), a side salad of lettuce with French beans, mangetout and carrot sticks, and a dish of fried padron peppers, all washed down with a glass of local red wine. Mmmmm! Shame I can only share the pictures with you and not the meal itself. :o)

Nice basket full of garden produce you have there, Nariz!

I've been picking potatoes, cucumbers, lettuces, raspberries & blackberries this week! Oh, did I forget to mention several kilos of green beans?!

With all the raspberries I've eaten during the last week I ought to LOOK like a raspberry by now! LOL!

Lol.

That basket is lovely too, do they make them locally?

20 Aug, 2011

No, Sticki, we bought that in Javea 'dahn sarf.' The baskets here are made with wide reed and are very expensive for what they are - and not very robust for their use. They seem to be more for tourists than farmers these days.

Lucky you .Love the "padrons". Never seen them in England .

Mmmm.... I've only managed a few potatoes this year...but next year it will be beans, squash, swt. corn and carrots. Have plans to build a carrot bed...(It's sandy loam with not too much compost, as it makes the carrots rooty...but dug very deep..18 to 24 inches, with good drainage beneath...carrots are so easy to pull and they (Nantes or Chantenay) grow long, slender and sweet! That's if you don't have a hubby like mine who adores the "baby" size carrots...wrapped in a cocoon of foil..sprinkled with butter and salt...and placed on the barbeque to caramelized in their own juice...!
