I have a patio of sorts, and recently the slabs have started to lift. I decided to try and relay them, when i lifted them i found roots underneath, i'm not much of a gardener, so i have taken a pic of roots and asked someone more knowledgable what kind of weedkiller to put down to kill them. He told me he hadn't seen roots lik them before, so i was wondering if you had any advice.

You could give us a clue by telling us what's growing nearby & then we'll tell you that's what the roots are from. ;-)
Is there bindweed nearby? That has white squiggly roots.

Looks like bindweed, but you'd have that growing elsewhere as well. I'd echo Beattie's comments...
