scorched mountain ash: a neighbor has had a garden fire gone out of control and cause some damage, one casualty is a pink Rowan. Although the flames haven't touched it,the leaves have all shriveled and turned brown. Is there any hope of a recovery or is it a case of chop it back and see if new growth appears?

Leave it alone for now. With luck it is just the leaves that have been scorched and the twigs and branches are OK. See how it comes back next year and then prune out any dead bits.
