I'm having problems in identifying the attached plant. At the moment it is about 5ft tall and is convered with drooping flowers. I did think it may be some type of aqueligia but I'm not too sure.

Welcome to GoY Christine, you have a "Shrimp Plant" which is the common name (Belaperone Guttata) lovely plant!

It is Leycesteria Formosa. It has other names too. Some times it is called flowering nutmeg or pheasant berry or Himalayan honeysuckle

As it's spread by birds, perhaps your garden birds eat the berries and fly off to your neighbours' gardens to "sow" them, Louise. :-)
