Potato Vines potatoes

United States

This is the first year I grew these in our urns. I love the lime colored leaves, but didn't realize that they ACTUALLY grow potatoes at their base! What do you do with the potatoes? They take up a lot of room in the pots. Can I move them inside in mixed pots? Any way to keep that darned potato from growing so big?

Hi Lovetoplant. You don't say where you are in the States but I am assuming you are talking about sweet potatoes and so must be in the south.

You are therefore asking this question in the wrong country. Oh that we could grow sweet potatoes even under cold glass. Not a chance. Nobody grows them here. They require far too much heat. And I assume that you have seen the price of heating your house today, never mind your greenhouse. I am sure we would all love you to keep in touch on plants we can grow in both countries, and there are US members of GoY who may be able to answer. But most of us are UK (USDA zone equivalents of 7a to 9b with most in 8a to 9a) so sweet potatoes are a no-no here. More is the pity. I love them.

How do I say thanks?
