Rhubarb problem

United Kingdom

I have two rhubarb plants that are now three years old. This year both plants have got a clear liquid coming out in small spots on the stems. Also at the bottom of some stems a larger amount of this clear liquid (it is sticky) This is causing the stems to become dry and stained inside

Mine does this too. I've looked it up on web but can't find any answers. You should only pick rhubarb until about June as the stalks are not so nice after that. Is yours OK in early summer? If so, I wouldn't worry, just cut it down and clear away all dead leaves and rubbish in autumn, feed with a good mulch and wait for spring.

How do I say thanks?
