Cat? Foxes poo stinks to high heaven and is usually black but I've not studied either too closely.

Also I seem to remember that it usually tails off into a thin stringy bit a the end (lovely!)

If no dogs can get in how could foxes though?

Foxes are terrific climbers.

you could get some gloves on and have a look with a couple of sticks etc and you will find bones in its scat if its a fox .

well sometimes the knowing is far more important than a smell . its like when you look in the toilet . that's closer than 10 feet but if you don't you should .

My Son has a Fox come in his garden , & he has seen it Jump over his 5ft fence . And yes Black Poo . Needs to stop it & doesn't know why it comes as no food etc lying about . Thankfully doesn't come near the house now ( he has a long garden ) Houses are all close around , so it must surely have a den somewhere

its all about territory not just food and it mite just need his garden as a way of getting some wear else . why has he got to stop it pammie ?

We have one that comes through regularly on the way to somewhere else. We rarely see it and it does no harm - doesn't even leave a smell very often. Badger is a lot worse. If the poo worries you just bury it.
