I have got two young almond trees as a gift. I do not know if they need any special soil for the beginning or if I can plant two young trees in the same hole. Somewhere I read I could, as it enables better pollination. Does somebody have experience with growing almond trees, please?

Are they similar to, peach trees? They are susceptible to late frosts and peach leaf curl which is a mildew type that curls the leaf thought to be caused by rain on the leaves.......worth checking out?

I wouldn't plant two in one hole, as they grow they can start to grow out at an angle and force themselves apart to the point of having to cut one down to save the other. Happend to us with self seeded birch

I wonder if an Almond tree would grow in our climate. I envy you, that picture is amazing, the blossom is wonderful. I would not be too bothered about the almonds just would love the blossom that the tree has to give. Good luck with them.

Hi Katarina, these trees can spread to about 25 ft wide, and the same height, so don't plant in the same hole, plant at least 50ft apart, they will still get pollinated, no special soil needed, just keep them well watered until they get established.
Oliveoil, both the flowering almond, Prunus triloba, and the common almond, Prunus Dulcis, are completely hardy, P triloba only gets to about 10 ft x 10 ft, so if you're not concerned about the nuts, this may be an option for you, Derek.

Hello, Derek,
Thank you very much for so many useful information. Almond trees are hardy in vineyard regions here as I was informed by some gardeners. OK, I will not plant them in the same hole then. Scotcat, Oliveoil, thank you for comments, maybe in a year or two , I will upload here photos of my own almond trees. Pamg@thank you for advices, I am going to plant both trees separately.

Oliveoil there was a lovely one where I used to live in a village near Stoke on Trent. One year it did have lots of almonds on, but it flowered beautifully every year. Go for it!

I have had a look Stera, I think I shall have to make room for one, its a lovely tree, although I think it might be the smaller one P.Triloba that way it will not grow too big for the border. :o)

Good luck with that one :-) What sort did you choose?

not chosen yet but think it will be P. Triloba as I can keep it bushy, better for my borders :O)
