I dont know which is the best plant to recommend but be aware that the lower plants are more difficult to water.

I agree, Jan. I, and many others, have found these actually difficult to grow strawbs in, for the reason you state. Strawbs grow well in hanging baskets/window boxes. Strawberry pots/planters are good for herbs which like drier soil conditions, though.
