Hi Guest Sunflowers grow from Annaul Seeds so New Seeds have to be grown every year 2 get a New Sunflower :) If ud like more than 1 Flower on the Plant then Nip its growing point out when about 24 inches Tall/High :)

Unless it's a perennial sunflower like Helianthus Lemon Queen? These will bulk up over the years and have more and more flowers.

It spreads quite quickly and you need to chop the sides off the clump every so often. Grows to 6 or 7 feet and flowers for ages.

Oh Dear, Jacque - more " spending"? :-D)

What we mostly know as Sunflowers (Helianthus) are, traditionally, the very tall, or dwarf, sunflowers, which are annuals (grow from seed/flower/go to seed /die)- in the same season. Wonderful to see, and a children's (and, I suspect, many an adult's) favourite. Far more value lies in the seedheads than you think. Leave them, and the plants, through Autumn, and the wild birds will have a feast. Harvest them, dry offf, and combine with your own wild bird cake recipes for Autumn/Winter bird cake.. Cut off the large seedheads, remove half, or whatever, of the seeds for own use, and lay the head on the bird table. Remove the seeds from your own part, and dry in the oven (the smell of sunflower oil is amazing/
as good as baking bread). Then, you can store the seeds in airtight jars, and use in recipes, or just snack on!)

Helianthus Lemon Queens sounds amazing. I tried the Thompson and Morgan catalogue but they have sold out and I can't find them anywhere else. Any ideas anyone?
