Mint and lemon balm like shade and damp soil. Some, like fennel, are not fussy. What sort of soil do you have?

I cannot really help you too much, other than to say that mediteranean herbs, such as as oregano & basil, need free draining soil.
I always struggle with coriander, which produces weedy plants that bolt!
