Looks like those alien ladybirds Jacque. I think the fear is that they will kill all our native ones, but shouldn't harm the plant in any way.

You sure, Mad? These look like eggs to me, and ladybird larvae, even the harlequin, doesn't look like this, well,I didn't think anyway. No idea what they are myself.

I would be pretty certain these are over wintering aphis. Rub off with a gloved hand as Moongrower says, pronto.

Unusual to see these on an exposed stem like this. I have seen these same aphid eggs crammed into the crevices of bark on the trunks of trees (especially apple).
