Very pretty David.

I have a purple flowering heather in my garden. It is the same colour as that flowering at the top of your photo. It is not flowering at the moment and was at it's best in the spring so I don't think it can be the same heather as your picture. The flowers on my heather are more numerous / tightly packed than in the photo. You have got me wondering what mine is now.

Possibly a hybridized cultivar bred especially for gardens, Gf. Of course, we can now buy heathers which will bloom in every month of the year. The wild one, however, here, always begins flowering in July and will give the hill- and mountainsides a purple colouring.

Further thought!

Some "heathers" are also found under "Erica" (carnea). ?

What else?

See who else is growing Calluna vulgaris (Heather).

See who else has plants in genus Calluna.
