Hi Amy

Earliest they can have berries is 4 years , and both male and female produce very small white flowers in the fork of the branches.

I think just a waiting game .... like Dd mentioned already.

i have tried several times, my friend gave me some from her apple tree so at least I know the plant likes apples and I watched a pair of Nuthatch eat most of them !!! and I tried my best to stick them all over the nooks and crannies.

How do you set them Amy ? I have set several on the various trees a few years ago , but no sign of anything .
Some did arrive , its own , on a small Grannie Smith tree , but it (the tree) died the next year .

What a shame Gg I remember placing fine netting over the berries to stop the bullfinches eating them ..I'll keep my fingers crossed that berries will appear one day ,,
Julia the berries must be UK grown not brought in from abroad at Christmas , pick them when they are ripe keep them safe until about March then open the berry you will find a nice ripe green fleshy seed inside take it out and then place it on the underside of an apple tree its sticky so will stay there you can make a tiny slit to pop it in which I did but I have read it isn't necessary I have mine on Granny Smiths & Cox's I had some on a Russet but it met an unfortunate accident when son & OH knocked the branch off :o( .. I believe they also grow on Lime trees but apple seems to be best for a garden ..Thats sad news about your G.Smith dying That is a worry with something like this !
