I thought this one would not appear this year, but look! here is a flower up among the Photinia leaves.

Thanks Paul, shame you can't really see the red bar down the centre because of the sunlight!

After trying Clems again this year, the best success I've had is in pots so I am going to sink pots into my borders. It makes it so much easier to water with my soil (has to be seen to be believed!) The 'Corona' I bought from Morrisons has been lovely and is still flowering, spured me on to keep trying :-))

And this one is lovely :-))

The problem must be your soil, and of course your slope! They like to be damp, can't stand to dry out, they wilt if they get dry. They also have very large roots Ann....I'll be interested to see how you get on with sinking the pots, but if it was me, I'd go for digging in a whole lot of organic and planting them deep, and just make sure they are well-watered. They are probably doing better in the pots because you water the pots!

I have knocked the bottom out of the Corona pot and sunk it in the soil :-))

Well, that could be a really good plan because the sides of the pot will hold the water and keep it moist! Hope it does well.
