Wood mouse

I spotted this little fella running in and out of my plantpots (he’d been nibbling the Hemerocallis leaves !), but he was always too quick for me to identify him. So I spent £3 on a humane trap and sacrificed a square of my Galaxy bar to bait it.

Less than an hour after placing the trap, I had him, ( the rest of the chocolate didn’t last that long though ! ). His big ears and bulbous eyes, long tail (same length as body), sandy brown fur and white underside indicated that it was a Wood mouse. He was surprisingly still, sitting in the trap and after I opened it up and took his mug-shot, he jumped out and ran off to next doors’ decking – WITH THE CHOCOLATE !

Have to say I've never been able to tell what live here, too quick for me. I agree they are "cute" even though it could be them that eat my newly sown beans in spring. You've taken a super pic, well done

22 Jun, 2010

You never know, Muddy, he just might 'Return to Sender' and bring you a replacement galaxy instead, though can't deny it might be a bit nibbled at the edges lol!

23 Jun, 2010

... and you know what the wise men say - he must have been a fool to rush in there : ))

Eek, cringe!

26 Jun, 2010

Yes,Muddy,Don't be cruel,,I don't want to 'Surrender' just yet.Just 'Love me tender' and gimmee another piece of chocolate...!!!......

28 Jun, 2010

Why would you love being with us mad lot,Muddy ? Does this mean,if you can't beat em,join em ?.lol.

28 Jun, 2010

Bet he was rushing off home to get that chunk of galaxy to his latest flame, and Marie's the name.....(well...it's just a bit of poetic licence going on there!lol)!

30 Jun, 2010

Lol,Flori..Poetry course next ?.

30 Jun, 2010

Tee hee hee, now that's a thought, poetic licence I have sought,
to put in prose this little mouse, who dared to wander through Muddy's house, well, really, shed, but it didn't rhyme, so chose to write a better line!

Caught in a trap, what could he do? Snapped from above by you know who, displayed on Goy for all to see,but wait! I think he just got free!!!

With galaxy choc still in his paws, he ran so swiftly to next doors!
Such sacrifice our Muddy made, but little woodmouse now has strayed.
What a tale, I'm glad to tell this, our little rodent, now renamed Elvis! Ta dar!! :~))x

30 Jun, 2010

Funny,Flori,or should that read funny Flori? tee hee to you too.Lol.
On reading this,.felt my Arteries hardening..
If I were you,I'd stick to Gardening !!!!
Sorry,Muddy, you will wish you never told us about little "Elvis ":o)))))))))

Am so distraught you did not like, these ramblings that I had to write.
to put in prose, or is it poem, of Muddy's mouse, and of his going.....
Bloomer, just where is your soul,a search party I will enroll,
to seek it out, where could it be? still grieving over the Galaxy?
Little 'Elvis' has just left the house~our chocolate loving, little mouse! :~))x

1 Jul, 2010

Glad that `Elvis` came to mind,
If it was only just to find,
How many witty folks there are,
That quoted songs from that great star.
So Muddy, just be careful when
you choose to blog on Goy again,
For if not careful they will be ` singing in the rain`.

Oh no - forget it.

1 Jul, 2010

Wonderful Stroller!! LOL!
Another witty piece of rhyme, however do we find the time?,
Stroller's warning well could be, the best advice Mud could receive!
But witty folk are such a joy, and better still, we're all on GOY! :~))x

1 Jul, 2010

Great,Stroller..!!.welcome to poets corner .ha ha.I think Muddy is wishing he had never started all this .Is he hiding ?Poor little" Elvis"..give him some chocolate..Can't you hear him singing about it,outside the shed?.".one night with you,is all that I'm looking for " ...He's even swinging his hips, and curling his lips......

1 Jul, 2010

Now would be ''Elvis'' the wood mouse, or Muddy, Bloomer??I'm a bit confused now, and as Muddy's keeping so quiet, I reckon he's being smuggled out of the country even as I type! LOL! :~)))x

1 Jul, 2010

Definitely " Elvis" the woodmouse,Flori.Lol.I don't really want to know if Muddy is a mover and groover ..but I suspect when he,or indeed,if ever he comes back,he will probably confirm or deny his musical preferences.......

1 Jul, 2010

Well the way I've heard he uses those secataurs does make me wonder......

1 Jul, 2010

I'm still here but I'm All Shook Up a ha ha ... lol. My musical preferences depend on my mood - Jimi Hendrix, Rory Gallagher, Freddie King, Thin Lizzy (now Phil Lynott could write a good verse or two), anything from the Baroque era and as for the ladies in my musical life - Joni Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt, Cecilia Bartoli and the sweetest voice I've ever heard, Ella Fitzgerald. Oh, I can feel a late night session coming on ! :-))

1 Jul, 2010

Hi Muddy! Hope you enjoyed the poetic ramblings, and little rodent 'Elvis' has earned his place in the mousehole of fame! lol! Like your preferences, music that is, but couldn't agree more about Ella Fitzgerald~a voice of silk! I sing all of her stuff, and Peggy Lee, Julie London, Sarah vaughan~it's music to make you melt and be mellow by~it just doesn't get better than that my friend! LOL! A late night session, you, a bar of Galaxy, and Ella crooning, and little 'Elvis' waiting for his share of your chocolate bar~surely bliss! :~))

2 Jul, 2010

Yep - almost heaven. :-))

2 Jul, 2010

Well, I could skip the chocolate, but add in a glass of wine or two, and maybe pass on the delightful company of 'Elvis' the wood mouse, but otherwise, my idea of heaven too, Muddy! Tee hee hee!! :~))

2 Jul, 2010

Hi Muddy.
This morning my husband said that my daughters Bengal
Cat. Who is still a kitten at two years old was looking proud of his self and when i looked he had caught his first
mouse. And it had to be a wood mouse there it was looking at me although it was dead and its bright eyes
still open I think it must have been the one that had been Feasting on my strewberrys. And i hate to see anything that has been killed as we live in the New forest we get so many different animals. Around the garden.
there is one good thing the cat dont seem to damage them. Not that it helps once the deed has been done.
.(woodMouse)
