Fav. seasonal veggie

We woke up to more snow again today, have to confess we are both starting to suffer from ‘cabin fever’ what with the inability to do any work on the land at all. So I got to thinking which was my fav. veggie at this time of the year and decided that it is celeriac… very versatile and easy to grow. Two seasonal veggie neither of us like are beetroot and jerusalem artichokes… the beetroot is a hang-over from my mother boiling up in the kitchen, the smell made my feel ill whilst the artichokes… yes well intestinal gas is no fun!
So let’s hear from you all voting for your fav. seasonal veggie and how about a few recipes too?

I don't grow veggies - but there are so many that are both good for you and good to eat! My 7-year old grandson and I share a liking for brussels sprouts! I like parsnips, as well, especially roast - he doesn't.

How can you not like the smell or taste of freshly cooked beetroot? I think they are my favourite home grown veg. I do love my Brussels Sprouts as well. I still have some on my plants waiting for the cold weather to go to give them a last burst of growth! Lovely!

Each of us has our own likes and dislikes when it comes to the food we eat, or don't eat (wink) Our son and his family all love beetroot roasted in olive oil with a little garlic and none of them really likes celeriac (though I can sneak into a casserole). This isn't about I'm right - your wrong, just a genuine what is your fav. seasonal veg. Hopefully it will help us to see the abundance of different veggie we have rowing in the UK adn that we do not need to import our veggies from the other side of the planet.

Mmm, brussel sprouts are a favourite here too. We enjoy parsnips too, although we love them best when Paul cooks them in butter with cumin.

just had roasted butternut squash rissotto , last stored squash , and it was so sweet and delicious. now we have to go and buy from the supermarket and i know they won't be the same.
just roast the 1/2 inch squares of squash in the oven with a tiny amount of olive oil.
sweat down an onion, add the rissotto rice and cook as per instructions , add a couple of table spoons of freshly grated parmesan cheese and mix in the roasted squash.
other fav veg is parsnip and sprouts..................steve

Brussel sprouts are great and I like turnips too. I am with you Moon grower....I do not like beetroot and I don't really like parsnips either. As you say, different people have different tastes.

....carrots, sliced into rounds or batons, doesn't matter, simmer until tender, drain, return to pan with knob of butter, sugar to taste, a goodly squirt of lemon juice and finely chopped parsley and heat through gently. I loathe carrots, but I can eat them if I 'do' them like this!
Curried parsnip soup is lovely!
