Hello my lovely friends,

I have a little challenge for you and I thought it might be good fun!!

Its our 2nd wedding anniversary tomorrow and Mark and I have decided not to give each other gifts, cards etc but to go out at the weekend and buy a plant or shrub to celebrate the occasion instead. I love the idea of this and it will be our tradition on each anniversary for hopefully years to come.

So here is my challenge, have you got any suggestions for something that is really romantic, I don’t have room for roses, my garden is quite small, and there is not a lot of space left but I am happy to replace something.

I would love to hear from you…

There is a Standard Rose, 'Silver Wedding' - there might be another one in the 'wedding' range if you ask. They dont take up much room. You can put other plants around the base area.
Happy Anniversary anyway.

2nd anniversary is Cotton, perhaps you could incorporate a plant which includes cotton in it's name. Don't know enough to give you suggestions though Marion x

I would like Exochorda 'Bridal veil' A beautiful shrub about 4' x 4' Spectacular in spring. Check it out Marian and do let us know what you finally decide on and how your day goes on Saturday.

Maybe RHS Plant of the Year 2012 which is Foxglove Illumination . They are on sale in flower now and they say it will branch out a bit and flower non-stop till November. Have been tempted but haven't got one for myself yet.

Oh how about something architectural like a hardy palm or a magnolia , or a Wedding cake tree also known as Cornus controversa verigata .
I had a lovey acer for my 40th and will always look on that plant with pleasure. Ghttp://www.crocus.co.uk/plants/_/cornus-controversa-variegata/classid.968/?affiliate=googleproductfeedood luck finding something special...

Just had a look on giftaplant site Marion, the flower symbol is Cosmos, the gemstone is rose quartz and garnet and the traditional is cotton, if you don`t have room for another shrub you could get yourselves something ornamental and possibly incorporate the colours, there are always gorgeous ornaments around and lots of colours to choose from..

as space is at a premium look for summer flowering bulbs ,if you want the flowers at the similar time to your wedding. or how about nigell [love in a mist] a gorgeous annual that self seeds year on year.

I like fuchsias.
and since it's apparently your cotton anniversary, there's one called Cotton Candy. It's a pale pink colour. I don't know if it's widely available in garden centres though. That's the only thing i can think of lol

Congratulations, and I think you've got a good idea there :o)

I,ve seen that one Hywel, some years ago a guy set up a fuchia nursery on a bit of land,. Poly tunnel and a touring caravan as his office....but the range of fuchias he grew was truly amazing all laid out in mini pots so that the varieties were together and when n flower the colours spread like a patchwork quilt.....cotton candy was one I really remember.

What about some ornamental plant supports - Michaella on here bought some beautiful ones and she has pictures of them in her garden, ones with glass baubles and small pretty metal ones. That way you would have room without replacing any plants.

What a lovely idea Marion wishing you both a belated happy anniversary.

A garden of anniverary memories.

Or a nice seat for the garden for you both to sit and admire.
