MY BRILLIANT DAY!

Today has been a really really good day for me, and one in which I have a LOT to be thankful for!
Even if it DID rain!!

David had arranged to come up to Perth & have a look at my garden & go over & advise on ideas for the theme I want my garden to take, which is a kind of Buddhist/Scottish mix (ALL his fault of course, for pointing me towards the buddhas & Bagpipes garden!).

He arrived at ten, absolutely LADEN with plants,, and pics of the Peace Pole from Pittencrieff Park!
He had brought me 3 Carex “Buchananii”, 2 Uncinia Rubra, a Cordyline Australis, a Clematis “Niobe”, a Crocosmia “Lucifer” a Eupatorium Rugosum “Chocolate” (of course!) & a Rogersia Pinnata!!!!
(Yes, he DID have to write the names down for me!)

So I was, of couse touched (dont say it, Digger!) & delighted!
Then the postie arrived, & I opened this

from Spritzhenry, some Cerinthe seeds! Thanks Spritz!

And This!
Some fuschias, Delta’s Sara & Genii from Blodyn. Thanks, Hywel!

After a coffee & a chat about what to do with my little garden, I showed him my favourite spot, Yes, the river!
We took a different path back & spent several minutes trying NOT to fall on our butts in the mud!

After this we got into his car & went to Pitlochry, where I tried to ignore the plant sale, but David spotted one particular plant that I had been talking about & bought it for me!
I had told him about a “clueless” purchase I had made of Cardocrinium Gigantium seeds (Giant Himalayan Lily to me!) & about finding out that they grow from bulbs not seed!
So, in a VERY kind act, he bought me This!

I can’t tell you how touched I was by this! I had been laughing about the seeds but I WAS a bit disappointed, so this really made my day!
Then we had lunch, the hot buffet that was neither! But it Was delicious!

After lunch we went Here.

On our way to the river, I had spotted a large bush with gorgeous red berries on it that neither of us could id, & it was one of the first things we saw at the Explorer’s Gardens! Turns out it was

Oh how we laughed!! Quite apt, no?

then we saw hundreds of fascinating plants & very curious objects, although we HAD missed the best of the season & a lot of plants had gone to seed!
here are some of the things we saw & I’ll put names in IF I can remember any of them! (Shoulda taken notes!)

Japanese Anemones

I thought David was gonna dive in head first!

It’s a big garden!!

David’s found a gnome from gnome!

Had to be done!!

View from the top!

Ooh look! Lumberjacks!!

The Pagoda! Beautiful!!

A Tibetan Cherry! I love the coppery bark!

View from the pagoda!

We couldnt make out the label, so……….

Heres what it said, David!!

What was that comment you made, David? Oh, yes, “Son of a gunnera”!

Looks like he’s spotted summat!

After my trek in the Himalayas (the pic that proves it was all blurry!) We headed to one of my favourite places, the infamous Queen’s View, where we had coffee & stale cakes served by two very surly frenchmen, who had obviously had a little spat!
Then we headed for the viewpoint.

This tree fascinated me with all the lichens growing from it!

Just beautiful!!

Just to prove I was there!

A different angle!

And on the way back to the car we met some new friends!

So then, after a fun packed day (I think we laughed all the way round those gardens!) we headed back to Perth, where after all his generosity & kindness, I presented David with THIS!!!

It only remains to thank the people who made my day such a brilliant one; Spritzhenry, Blodyn, & MOST of all, Thanks David, for a Brilliant Day!

Great blog MP

Thanks Dan!
It was a superb day, & I took so many pics! Didn't have to discard many either!
I'll probably put more on my photos page. Those birds were flying around us, & really close in the trees,9 about 3 feet away) 7 didn't seem to mind at all!
yes, david is a really nice GoY! And as nutty as your squirrel!
Definitely a day to treasure, Doon!
Yes Hywel, you definitely added to my day, thank you!
David, you're a star, & I cant wait for our next expedition!

21 Aug, 2009

Yes, Barbara!
It's VERY special! The whole day was a laugh a minute & we learned an awful lot too!
It was a great garden, though I would recommend going in June/July, as we'd missed it at its best, a lot of what we went to see had gone to seed!
You definitely DID help! Thanx!

21 Aug, 2009

21 Aug, 2009

Thanks Carol!
Terrible pics, but I honestly couldnt stop laughing! David had picked up my camera & said "where's the mountain?" & we were taking the mick out of each other non-stop!
My ribs were sore by the time I got home!
And his kindness was over and above!

21 Aug, 2009

Fantastic blog Mp...and clearly you had a fantastic day out ! Were you fighting over the camera or did you both have one ? Lol ! Great pics whoever took them !!

21 Aug, 2009

Hiya BB! We both had camera's (tho I had to hold mine together, the battery cover catch has broken!), & this lot are all mine. Its only a portion of what I DID take! I'll post the rest later!
Glad you liked them!
A lot of the plants weren't labelled, & the South African ones were in the area signposted as South America! A very confusing but hilarious "world tour"!!!

21 Aug, 2009

Wonderful of Spritz and Hywel to send seeds too.Davids car must have been overflowing with plants judging by those pics ! Thoroughly enjoyed the tour !

21 Aug, 2009

He had them all over the car when he arrived at my house!! I thought I was getting cuttings!!
Hywel sent me 3 good-sized cuttings of some beautiful fuschias, & Spritz sent seeds of Cerinthe, which I find fascinating, so I'm super-chuffed!
Glad you enjoyed it!

21 Aug, 2009

What a lovely surprise for you...no wonder you are chuffed !!

21 Aug, 2009

The highlight was the Giant Himalayan Lily that David bought me at the garden!

21 Aug, 2009

More gifts ! Doesnt he realise hes giving us men a bad name !! Lol

21 Aug, 2009

LOL! And he just went away with a Cadbury's van Biscuit tin & a bunch of rhubarb!!

21 Aug, 2009

LOL...Poor David...the rhubarb should ensure he will be a "regular " visitor ! !

21 Aug, 2009

WOW sounds as though you and David had a whale of a time today Marie with non stop hilarity and plenty of scrumptiousness in the cafe. It was very kind of your GOY friends to send you all those plants and seeds and I can see that you really appreciated it. I enjoyed looking at all your photos and reading about your antics lol and hope that there are many more days of laughter and merriment on the way for you. :-)

21 Aug, 2009

Groannnnnnnn!
Well, he did get some free range eggs & some jam too!
And I'm going to split the rhubarb when it goes back a bit, so he can grow his own!
But I fully intend to find some way to reciprocate!
I have a cunning plan!!

21 Aug, 2009

Oh...do you ! Look forward to seeing the results in another blog !!!

21 Aug, 2009

Great blog Marie...what a good day for you both! Love those staues. All your pics are fab...& those hugimous leaves!!!

21 Aug, 2009

Watch this space!

21 Aug, 2009

Really enjoyed your blog Madperth. Thanks for identifying the Virburnum with the red berries, one has appeared in my garden and I was wondering what it was.

21 Aug, 2009

Thanks Fluff! it was! Statues? No, that was David on the pine-cone!
Ohhh! You mean the mother & child? It was two sides of the same carving & so beautiful, but rotting away at the bottom, which was sad!

21 Aug, 2009

Another one with my name on it, Dawn!!

21 Aug, 2009

I'll try and get some cuttings going off mine. Its been growing on the bank of my brook for some years but I've never really taken much notice of it until this year as its been covered in berries.

21 Aug, 2009

I thought it was strange that I only really noticed the wild one when I was showing David how close I am to the river, then we saw it at Pitlochry!
So I definitely have to have that in my garden!! Let me know if your cuttings take, I'll try it with the wild one! It'd make a stunning hedge, I think!

21 Aug, 2009

Mine has to be a wild one Madperth, I would suspect. I'll take the cuttings tomorrow and I will let you know if they take.

21 Aug, 2009

Great! Thanks Dawn!

21 Aug, 2009

What a great day you both had Your pics are brilliant, brings back memories. You went some miles too, Queens view is about 8 or nine niles out over the Garry river and right up that long and winding road. We enjoyed the Explorers garden when we were in Pitlochry but I only had my video camera that day. I told David that just over the other side of the Tummel river on the town side, over the bouncy bridge, is an area that the council are clearing and they have placed a rowing boat planter there ready to plant up, I shall have to check that out next time we get up there.

21 Aug, 2009

We werent in town, just cut through on the way to Queen's View.
Were the poppies out when you went?

22 Aug, 2009

Not sure I will get the DVD out and have a look, I think they were.

22 Aug, 2009

How could you forget??????

22 Aug, 2009

Great blog...nice to put faces to names...Hi Marie! Hi David! Love the Tibetan Cherries for their beautiful bark, too, M.
And how sweet of Hywel & Spritz.
So lucky to have that place to visit...what a marvellous idea..'plant hunter's garden'..like that. I s'pose here in Wales it would read 'wet plant hunter's garden'! Lol

22 Aug, 2009

It was a pretty wet day before we went up, hence the waterproof jacket on top of my hoodie!
The sun came out for a while later, & came out in earnest just as we were heading back!! Typical!!

22 Aug, 2009

your photos are amazing. the pine cone...... the dragon....and now i understand the lilys...

22 Aug, 2009

Lol! I wouldn't include my photos in my art tho!!
I use an idiot-proof camera!

22 Aug, 2009

mine has loads of setting but i only use auto and macro...oh and i can surpress the flash...havent got the foggiest what the other buttons do.....lol

22 Aug, 2009

I keep ending up with mine on the wrong setting, it's a wheel turn setting thingy, so some of them turn out really wierd!!

22 Aug, 2009

lol ....thats why i stay on the same setting. i only mean to turn it one click and it jumps or sticks...

22 Aug, 2009

Yep! It would appear mine isnt really idiot proof, or at least not MAD proof!!

22 Aug, 2009

you and the camera took some great phootos on your lovely day out. but you could have at least tried to get the pine cone in the car....

22 Aug, 2009

It was a small car! but if I could get a log round to my garden.......

22 Aug, 2009

;-)).

22 Aug, 2009

Hi Marie yes they were out but only just, there is a huge pinecone like that in the grounds of Pitlochry Hospital, do you think it could be a rather big squirrel?

22 Aug, 2009

Enjoyed reading about your day out Marie, lovely photo`s as well, thanks for sharing..

22 Aug, 2009

I think it's a b****y big tree, Bob!
You're welcome, Lincs, glad you liked it!

22 Aug, 2009

What a good blog. Days like these are rare so more enjoyable for it. Good pics too. BTW - I like the idea of the shelves on your shed!

23 Aug, 2009

Glad you enjoyed it ! Yes, it was a rare treat for me!
The shelves have kicked about for ages, & I thought they'd do for those little bits & bobs that "hide" whan you need them! Might just put plants on them tho, when I FINISH painting them!! :~))

23 Aug, 2009

I think the shelves would look great with little plant pots on them - pansies for the winter maybe?

23 Aug, 2009

You really must get your own back for all those lovely plants !!!

25 Aug, 2009

Oh, yes,BB!
I've found something to give him which is perfect for his next project (top secret, tho! Sorry)!
But I'll be on the lookout too!
He seems chuffed that he's getting a rhubarb plant! Go figure!!

25 Aug, 2009

i really felt your happiness Marie as I sat in the warm and dry watching you and David enjoying your lovely day out. I had a chuckle at the pic of David "standing" on that big leaf looking for all the world like a woodland elf LOL sorry David ;~))) You sound like such a happy girl and I was laughing along with you. The gardens were beautiful. Love Sue x

26 Aug, 2009

Thanks Sue, it was just a really fun day!

Hi Indy! Better late than never!!

It was a totally amazing day, & we're hoping to fit in another visit before they close in October!
There are more pics in my photos, but I took so many I couldnt upload them all!
Yes the statue is beautiful, but its a wood-carving too, & is rotting away from the bottom :~((
David didnt get chocolate, but he got rhubarb, eggs & a chocolate delivery van tin!!
I've also got stuff for him for his next project (& a rhubarb plant!)
