Joyce's Pool

I can’t believe I’ve been driving past this pond for 9 years and never stopped!
Last week the light was so superb and drawn in by the hint of bulrushes I thought an investigation was necessary!

I have googled it’s history and apart from one rather sad accident all I could find out was that it’s been the watering hole for the village of Didmarton for ever! The pool is the run off from all the land laying above it and as you will see in some of the photos, the water, especially at the moment, runs in channels from the fields into pipes and steams, under wee bridges that lead to this pool. The water then makes it’s way to the village of Sherston and joins the River Avon.

The photographs are not a patch on how lovely the pool actually is but I hope you get the gist!

It is Pimp, a very beautiful place. It had been left to do it's own thing for years then, a couple of years ago it was all cleared and strimmed and seats set out. I did think it was a pity that the run off from all the fields holds so much pesticide...I wish it didn't.

I wonder if there are any fish there because basically it's run off water from the fields and lane.
