All those who know me on Goy…know how I and we, love our ponds big or small.
My wee 500 litre pond is doing well this year. It’s clear(ish) and has 3 big(ish) and beautiful gold fish, 1 shabunkin, 8 minnows, about 100 tadpoles and of course Perry the fish and 2 new friends his size and shape or seem to be hiding in the mud at the bottom, for nearly 3 weeks now, at least I hope they are still there.
Having lost so many dear fishy friends to that hungry and clever heron i eventually invested in 10 aluminium twirly thin stakes, on which to attach fishing line which does the job effectively.
Having nearly jabbed my eye out on the tops of these twirly stakes….I had an idea!
Crystals! This first one is real, I can see it sparkle it’s colours from 50 feet away.

This Lilac cut glass pendant I wore for my wedding!! Looks really pretty by the pond. Here you can see more of the twirly things!

Plastic heart!

Now what Millie’s doing here, I can’t think! Love the atmospheric capture of here in the evening sunshine.

And this one, I’m particularly proud of…….I asked if I could steal it from the head waiter of a posh racing Brasserie!! It’s heavily weighted at the bottom, made of brass and has pretty swirl design at the top. Perfect for near the pond and I thought a great piece of engineering.

Hope this has inspired or given a smile. And hope also that some warm weather comes along soon and prises my 2 lost fish out from the mud!

We rely on childrens windmills especially the sparkly ones....but I love the idea of crystals....just watch out for the 'thieving magpies'

Great blog...pond bling and shabunkin what could be better...

I do like that idea, I bet they look smashing in the sunlight, hope they work against the heron Lulu, I daren`t leave mine uncovered even though the net spoils the effect but I think the chrystal effect in various parts of the garden would be grand....

Wow Lulu...lovely! ;) you are braver than me...but my old boss used to say "if you don't ask, you don't get" and it's very true! :))

Lovely Blog Lulu i think it is a good idea of yours to use the crystal's :)

What a brilliant idea - very effective - hope it really does keep the heron away.

I put the fishing line around the pond a few years ago, it's been 100% effective until I move something like the bridge and the heron see's a gap. No gaps now!!
I find the line is much less intrusive then net but, seriously, this has really worked.
The bling is more for me then the heron!!!!

great ideas Lulu, i have my net and so scared to take it off after my fish were taken but these look so pretty, i would have thought your other two fish should be up by now, dont want to worry you, let us know if they appear :o))

Goodness knows where they are San! They liked the edges of the pond because it's warmer...maybe the heron? I'll see better into the depths when I do an algo rem!

Great pics and like the idea of the bling to scare the Heron!

Bling, I think, more to amuse me!

A bit of bling certainly makes the spirals more attractive. I have them in my garden without the bling - I will have to see what I can do :)

Go for it Gee!

Nothing nicer than a bit of bling especially when they serve a purpose ~ don`t suppose the Heron cares for them much.lol.
