Westonbirt Trees

Today was ‘Dog Day’ at Westonbirt. I took 2 of our 3, 3 being 1 too many!
This is us setting off….

It rained but we had fun with the girls tripping me up with their leads! Saw lots of fab pooches but decided to leave the throng and the too loud speakers and take a walk through Silkwood.
There was a large wooden structure with words carved into the posts paying homage to all things made of wood…

Then, following one of the many paths through Silkwood I come to my favourite winter trees, the Cedars…

Poor Sluggypup was tied to my belt, not trusting her not to run off and play and get lost! I did let her off a few times to play with another pup and she was very good and came back when called!

I just love these branches. The tree below is the trunk of a Hornbeam, It’s the tree I tried to refind last year when one in my garden was loosing all it’s leaves. It doesn’t look too happy this year either, I don’t think it liked being moved at 4 years old but sadly I had no choice.

I wish I had taken more pics but it started raining!! Now I am home the sun is out and its lovely. I saw lots of Bluebells getting ready to put on a show, so will return again to Westonbirt with the camera!

We did enjoy it Val, very tired Sluggy and Pru and a bit of a miffed Jazz who was left home alone (but David did take her for a walk in the woods!)

Wonderful walk Lu. I love that Hornbeam and the moss growing on it, also the carvings in the wood, amazing. Would love to see the bluebells!

Paul, they look like roots but they are the branches of the tree, don't know why they have grown like that but very pretty.
Gmage, you will have to come and stay in May!!
I remember going to The Isabella plantation in the middle of Richmond Park, beautiful arboretum with streams and a couple of ponds. Best in May with the Rododendrons and Azalias, can't remember if it has Bluebells though.

It's a superb Arboretum Karen, one day I must go and take loads of photos (without pups!) I went last year in Autumn, the Acers and Maples were stunning!

Beautiful trees lulu and what looks like a lovely walk, i let Rocky off when not many people about as he just runs towards them, not to bite but to lick!!! not everyone appreciates being licked by an over enthusiastic pup though!!!

Sewingkilla Lol, no people dont. I saw a puppy yesterday run up to a little girl and juping up, left muddy paw marks all over her smart pink coat!
Those branches are superb, pity my 6 1/2 year old Hornbeam hasb't survived, it has only one branch alive on it :0(

It took longer than I thought to get back to your blog, Lulu, but better late than never! Looks a lovely place to visit and I could live with that lovely wooden structure but maybe a bit big for my garden.

The second tree photo amused me - it looks like an ogre with very long legs leaning back against the tree trunk - or am I being very fanciful? At school I was always told I had too much imagination.
