Taking garden photos at 5:30 in the morning....

My pups got me up very early in this morning so once their business was done I decided to take a few photos of my nasturtiums which have started to go into flower. Also included is a photo of my hollyhock which was id’d on GOY. These photos were taken under low light conditions so I apologize for their quality…

The photo of the hollyhock is the 5th from the top. I have strived to get the cottage garden look for years and find it funny that one of the signature cottage garden plants was planted for the first time in my garden not by myself but most likely a bird.

You’ve such a lush green, full of vivid colour as well as greenery. Lots of interest going on to catch the eye too. The hollyhock is a lovely deep, rich colour isn’t it!

Isn't that just the way of things? Its a lovely dark colour Are you tempted to grow a few more from seed and hope for some other colours too?
You have some grand Hostas - do you have slug problems with then?

I do find Kate and Linda that the spectrum of hues in the garden are at their most vibrant in the morning. The colors of the flowers seemingly have an intensity greater than the light upon them which accounts for their apparent fluorescence. At noontime the intensity of the sunlight washes away the richness of the morning effect. The pictures were taken with my iPad which also seemed to intensify certain colors in the dim early morning light. Yorkslass you are spot on with my temptation to grow different colors of hollyhocks. Since they are biennials, I will have to wait for them to flower in the second year:( As far as slug problems, I have none since the resident frogs in my ponds constantly patrol my garden and feast upon them if found.

I’m envious of you having lots of frogs! I’ve had a pond for eons!!! I saw a frog one evening making a quick stop en route somewhere else!!! It’s frog friendly too…pity!
I think you’re right about timings when taking pics, Loosestrife..the lighting a lunchtime is just too bleaching.
