I must admit that I am very worried about their survival. The night after they left the nesting box the temperature dropped down to 35 F which is very unusual for this time of year. Last night it was 45 F. Daytime temps are in the 70’s F and nighttime drops go into the 40’s. These young ones are very prone to death by hypothermia with this crazy weather pattern and that goes for fledglings of other species too.

Oh, I do hope they will survive, Loosestrife. Poor little things. I agree though, the temperatures are unusual, especially over your neck of the woods. We can only hope these little birds can thrive.

Just an update.....I cleaned the bluebird nesting box out and on 5/27 the bluebird pair were back building a new nest for their second brood.

Great. I have blue tit nestlings chirping in my nest box & boy are the parents kept busy feeding them.
