Going With The Flow......

Last fall I noticed significant decreasing changes in my strength and stamina as well as old injuries which were for a long time quiet now sticking their pitchforks into the affected places on my body. Nothing I did not expect due to old age. So I sat in my rocking chair to role play the " old man" and to look a garden created at a earlier time. I decided it was time for a change to the garden which would make gardening easier to still keep me in business as it were. While I still had the strength (which I now have lost) I decided to keep my main pond with waterfall and remove and fill in my Lilly pad, lotus, and fish hatchery ponds. In addition to that I would also remove a stone wall in my shade gardern. At the end of 2024 I had accomplished all I had set out to do. My New Years Resolutions were to no longer lift and carry…use a cane to reduce my chances of tripping and falling and to no longer dig if at all possible which meant new plantings would be potted. To aid in moving things around such as bagged mulch, rocks, potted plants, etc….I am using a hand truck as you see here…

To the hand truck I have attached a removable laundry basket to carry planted pots and groceries. You will see behind it a gardeners bench to sit on ( no more bending over for prolonged periods) which can be flipped over to kneel on. In this position the legs can be used to aid me in getting up……

What you will see next is my modified 2025 garden. Due to a bluebird couple bringing up a brood in one of my nesting boxes as well as a Cardinal pair nesting in my ornamental cherry tree I have delayed mulching in those parts of the garden so you will see unloaded bags of black mulch. The final photo is my garden tool bucket which I take with me in my garden rounds. It has been a real #%$=itch getting the photos loaded onto this blog by the way..my best regards to all of you!!!

It is nice to hear from you again Loosestrife.
I am sorry you are struggling now but you still seem to be getting on with it. Where there's a will, there's a way! Your garden is brilliant and am pleased you have the aid of canes now as there seems to be many things you could trip over.

Looking good Loosestrife. I also find it frustrating that I can't do what I could even a couple of years ago, and like you, have had to make changes.
