SOWING AND GERMINATION UPDATE (extra picture added 3/2/11)

Just an update on my sowing and germination .

PETUNIAS SOWED 8/1/2011
Over a 1000 seeds, some were started in the propagator, some were done with bottom heat from a paraffin heater.
Last week I popped into B&Q, and couldn’t believe they were selling plugs for 78p each, 10 for a pound, only instructions were “keep frost free”.
If I’m only 25% successful with these, I have saved a fortune. 1000+ = 99p.

Bottom heat from paraffin heater.

GAILLARDIA’S, SOWED 15/1/2011
Again done same as Petunia,s 250+ seeds = 99p

SWEET PEAS SOWED 8/1/2011
Heat supplied from paraffin heater, 30 seeds = 45p (half price). These have now been moved to the “cold greenhouse” , as advised by Scrumpy.

I have also sowed PHYGELIUS, COLEUS and have 4 HOYA BELLAS on the go, which were kindly sent to me by Bjs.
Hopefully have an update soon.
Happy Nearly Spring everybody.

UPDATE
I think i’ve got side shoots coming up on these as well.

Well done littlelegs that is the best feeling when they start to appear through the compost. I am starting mine soon meant to start at weekend but ran out of time. It is sometimes frustrating as I have sown seeds for my customers but not myself. But come rain, hail, sleet, snow or flippin hurricane I am doing mine :)

Great ! I'm pleased to see your germinating seeds. Good luck. I hope they grow into fine plants, esp the Hoya bella - they have wonderful flowers.

Thanks for all your comments, Its a great feeling when they start, I've never started this early before, but what the hell... I've treated myself to the facillities to do it , so I'm going for it.
Just a matter of molly codling them, until the extra hour comes and natural warmth.
And I've still got loads to sow, but might hold off for a little while.
I'm really looking forward to the Hoya Bella Hywel, they will be my only indoor plants.

Right, they're all doing so well that you've spurred me on to start some seeds. Sadly, no greenhouse, the cold frame is full, so it's going to have be the spare bedroom as my propagating room. How OH will feel about that is anybody's guess .. lol!

Go for it Shirley, I've just come in from the greenhouse, coleus germinated overnight. Petunias, Gaillardias, Rudbeckias, Hoya Bella cuttings, all going well. Waiting on Cape Fuchsias, Echinaceas, Verbenas, Antirrhinums. Will post another blog soon on update. Hope Michael's keeping well, as I'm sure you know we have new staff in at the Valley and they aren't doing that bad. :o))

That's good news on the Coleus ... it's great when they appear isn't it? Michael is fully recovered now ... very happy with the result yesterday! He is going to the new Amex stadium tomorrow to choose his seat for next season. He reckons your team are doing very well. Oh great ... there's a live game on TV now so I'll be out filling seed-trays for the next 90 minutes ... lol! : o ))
