Just maakes me feel cold looking at the pics - the poor birds are suffering too - please put some fresh water out for them everyone - if you do they'll come back to eat your unwanted bugs in the Spring!

left snow on my pond think it gives a bit of warmth to the water, got a ball in pond aswell, mind you not suppose to break ice on top of pond.

I only clear the bit where the water from the filter runs back into the pond and yes Spritz ,we do have ice underneath,it`s really lethal in places and this time I don`t have spare salt for my driveway so no snow clearing ...........
Sandra I do leave the main pump running at all times and usually its enough to keep that area clear but it`s extra cold this year as we all know and Icicles had built up around the outlet pipe...
Clarice you`re right about the ice, they say the shock waves can kill the fish and that is something I`d rather not discover to be true.
Sooze the birds got sorted first....lol. I kid you not I needed thawing out as well.....

You are hardier than me Lincslass - I leave the clearing to K - although we have a waterfall feature over the fish pond that has (so far) kept part of it clear of ice - I keep checking the fish and they are all just staying at the bottom of the pond - the wildlife pond has completely frozen and I then started worrying about all the newts - do they stay in ponds during winter? If Im not worrying about the birds or the fish I am worrying about the newts - roll on spring! :0)

My bottom pond is for wildlife only and frozen solid, it has to fend for itself I `m afraid, As to being hardy Lizzy, truth is the garden is my domain and joy and to be honest I don`t trust other`s to do things right ...Pleased to say hubby has done the shopping which I hate so in my opinion I got the best job...LOL...
