Bit soggy but they have enjoyed getting a drink..

First we don’t get any rain for weeks then we get the equivalent of a years worth in two weeks, I was concerned about my alpine pots and succulents, I only fetched them out of the g’house two days before the rains came so have been keeping an eagle eye on them, however as you can see they are fine..

In the garden things have simply romped away, I don’t know how the poppies stood up against the force of the rain at times but they sure did and they are producing more buds faster than I can deadhead them.

The roses are looking a bit messy and lots of deadheading to still do but I’m getting there..

Around the garden I have been cutting back and removing the spent spring bulbs and flowers, filling in the gaps gradually with summer and autumn flowering, mostly perennials although I have added gazania, petunia’s and cosmos daisies, its very colourful, lots of mingles still but I like it that way…

Very excited about the following two, first my Hebe’s, if you remember I lost one completely and had to cut the others back, look at the one below..

The other two are still a bit out of shape but they are also coming into flower, think its safe to say thay have recovered..
Now the really good surprise I got today, the next two are of a little shrub that I’ve had for 37yrs, I thought a flower had self set itself into the pot when I saw the little flowers, however as you can see its my shrub, I didn’t even know this one ever produced flowers..

.A lady on GUK has said she thinks it is a Whipcord Hebe, I’ve checked out the images online and think she may be right, how about that, guess it’s what you would say is a late developer….
Enjoy your garden folks, even if it has to be sorted between the downpours….

You have been under a deluge that's for sure. Hope it gets a lot drier and brighter very soon Sue!

Your plants look as if the rain has been just what they wanted! Everything looks lovely and there is colour everywhere. I agree with you about the difficulty of keeping up with the dead heading and in the case of our garden the weeds!!
Glad you have got your hebes back.

Glad your garden survived the terrible rain. It is strange when you think of this time last year when we all wanted rain. The plants look happy anyway.

Thankyou all, its been a good morning so the lawns are sorted, even done some edging around the bottom lawn, the grass had been encroaching amongst the stone walling so I've now gained control again, I dislike that job but looks so much better and will be easier when cutting the grass..
Have you noticed how many sparrows there are, a few years back they were in decline around these parts, we went from hundreds down to just a couple of house sparrows, if we were lucky, now we have hundreds, I keep hoping to see the greenfinches and thrush back also, only time will tell..

Lots of sparrows here to Sue which is lovely

Sue, I love the Roses and the Pinks. Our cat, Megan, has taken to lying down, when the sun shines, on top of a clump of Pinks, needless to say they are flattened to death now ... :o((

Hi Sue It's difficult to keep up with the garden when it rains so much, although I must say we haven't had as much here as other parts. I hope the ground isn't too soggy for you. Everything seems to be doing well for you though.
Fancy that shrub flowering after all those years ! You must be very pleased.

Shirley I have no problems with Toffee, he spends most of his outside times either on the sheds, our flat roof or sitting on the fencing, Brynner has been getting himself told off most severely, he's 10yrs old in August and only just started to dig holes in my garden, first it was under the Juniper, massive holes he digs, fast as I'd fill it in he did it again, I blocked it off to stop him, naughty boy decides to get his own back on me today by digging near my everlasting sweetpeas, earth all over my lawn and some of the peas lying amongst it, the air turned blue, he got a wallop on his behind, hurt me more than him Shirley, I've popped the stems back into the ground and given them a good soaking so fingers xx..Brynner still loves me even after I slapped his bottom, lol...

Hywel the ground was surprisingly easy to manage, I cheated and just used my long handled fork, one of the best tools I own, I walk around the beds instead of on them..
I honestly could not believe my eyes when I saw those flowers, hope its not another 37 yrs before it does it again, lol...

Ba I was devastated when my Hebes were sick, I lost one completely and really thought the others would also die, a friend even queried it through the RHS, I was concerned it might have been a disease that I hadn't heard about, now I guess it was stress related due to last years extreme heat as some of the members on here suggested.. I didn't even know that the little one was a Hebe, it was bought amongst a batch of conifers, I've not done anything different as regards care except add new compost last year, I have never fed it, in fact it does get neglected really...
