Sharing bathtime.

We are experiencing a lack of rain as most of you will know, in 1976 amongst the list of ways to conserve water the advice was to share a bath..
I guess they read my local rag..

Come on lads and lassies, we have to do our bit..

On the count of three..

Well done ,all spruced up, where we going tonight then ???

Hi Sue...
That's lovely...
Looks like they're sharing a shower too ;o)

Some good shots there. Love the way you can see the water splashing everywhere. I like to see them when they take flight, just after bathing - water in all directions! :-))

25 Feb, 2012

What fun! Lovely to see.

25 Feb, 2012

How great to see so many bathing at once.
Was they as noisy bathers as they are diners?

25 Feb, 2012

Brilliant Lincs,I love to watch them bathe. Do you put food in the top bit as I often think about getting one of these but wonder if the food would drop in the water.

Lovely Lincs! Thanks for making me smile. :))

Brill Lincslass a great year in 1976 something very special happened in about mid April ;)))) Lovely pictures , must add this as love birds - will make you laugh I tried to see what the non starling bird was , realised it was part of the bath :D

Lincslass, you have done it again, what a smashing blog, you made me smile, and lovely picture's :)

25 Feb, 2012

I think starlings are the funniest birds and it's great watching them take a bath together. Great pics.

wonderful series of pics, Lincs - like the way the otehrs seem to be patiently waiting for their turn, not pushing in!

25 Feb, 2012

Great shots Lincslass...I wonder if any of them were lucky ;0)
Mid April 1976....I wonder what that could have been Paul?? ;)

25 Feb, 2012

They were funny to watch, I was watching through the window, having my usual coffee break and didn`t want to disturb them, thats why the pics are not as clear as they could have been, I do put food on there but only when the dogs are not about, lol.
Paul that little bird is the cheapest and easiest to feed..

25 Feb, 2012

lol!

26 Feb, 2012

It is the Blackbird's that share mine ,I love to watch them from the kitchen window :-))

26 Feb, 2012

is there a recommended size/depth of birdbath? i read somthing years ago about there should be a "shallow end" for birds that preferred wading in a bit at a time, but that's all I know - I've got lots of things I could convert, but dunno how long/wide/deep it should be

26 Feb, 2012

thanks lincslass they are so funny love to see them all sloshing around in the water, my blackbirds do that quite a lot even in the freezing water. Well done on your pictures.

I remember, as I am sure lots of other GoYers do, the delights of the early 70's with it's injunctions to bath together, clean our teeth in the dark, television ended at 10.00p.m. and there was a three day week. I somehow can't see those lovely starlings going quite that far, but it's a good start! :o)))))))
Aren't you lucky still to have starlings around? I haven't seen any here for about 4 years now.

26 Feb, 2012

They come over in droves Gattina, its very noisy at times, lol..

26 Feb, 2012

great pics sue, love watching them bath, great fun :o))

26 Feb, 2012

Looks like they are having "such fun"!

27 Feb, 2012

lol even got a life-guard on duty, too

27 Feb, 2012

I've flagged the previous post, it does'nt seem to be from a real person or at least a real person who's not here to advertise. I'd be delighted to be proved wrong, though, Miajane

28 Feb, 2012

I was dubious about it myself Fran so haven`t clicked on the link...

28 Feb, 2012

They are lovely pics Lincs. I get lots of starlings here too.

28 Feb, 2012

I clicked the name, checked the profile, photos, blogs, zero in each except that the "profile" contains only the same link as in this post; and when I tried that, led to some commercial website.

I added my post after because I didn't want that post to be the last one in this thread - the photo deserves better!

28 Feb, 2012

Bless you Fran that is so thoughtful...

28 Feb, 2012

I had exactly the same reaction, Fran, but didn't go as far as flagging. I'm scared of jumping to wrong conclusions, but it certainly seemed wrong to me, too.

I was careful to stress "seems" in my flag, and added that I would like to be proved wrong.

Starlings seem to be a rarity in our garden, Lincs ... very few last year yet masses the year before ... would love to know why this happens .......

Paul, 1976 was the year I met my OH, what a loooong, hot Summer that was ... : o )))

9 Mar, 2012

Gosh, I remember 1976 - thought that hot summer would never end. I watered my precious robinia pseudoacacia with washing-up water in an attempt to save it, and killed the poor thing (detergent's never good for plants). That was the first time I cut Daughter's (4 years old) long, long blonde hair, because it was so hot. After that she stopped looking like a little angel and started looking like Christopher Robin instead. The following spring we put all the cut hair in a shoe box and put it out on the lawn, and she stood, nose pressed against the french windows, watching as all the birds came and collected it to make/line their nests. A lot of luxury, blonde nests in 1977!
I hate to end on a negative note, but that was also the year we took her to choose a kitten from the RSPCA refuge, and life for the birds in our garden was never quite the same again.

10 Mar, 2012

I've never quite had the nerve to ask the local hairdresser to save their cut hair for me, so I could put it out for the birds - they'd probably think I was some kind of perv!

But the squirrels have been having a go at the fleece on my greenhouse: i had to put the fleece on the outside, and it's got chunks nibbled out of it - we know it's squirrels because they were seen doing it! so maybe they're insulating their nests, too

10 Mar, 2012

Oh Gattina, I can remember cutting my son`s curls off just before he was due to start school, then crying because I had done it, lol, I stand outside to clean my hair brush and always clean Brynners brush outside, the birds are soon around collecting for nesting materials...
Fran the birds raid my hanging baskets in the same way, no squirrels visit my garden now...

15 Mar, 2012

how did you finally warn 'em off??? maybe you could patent it!

15 Mar, 2012

I would LOVE to have some squirrels in my garden, Fran (not that they'd last a moment in this cat-infested plot), but we rarely see them, unfortunately. Of course, we don't have the grey imports that the UK does, we have tiny chocolate-brown, tufty-eared ones, and it's a real red-letter day when we see one.

16 Mar, 2012

ah, I wouldn't mind native reds, they still have some manners! *s* the greys are "cute" but can be very destuctive - I'll send you some of mine if you want!!

17 Mar, 2012

No thank you, Fran - I had loads of them in the UK - cute, but not THAT cute!
