THE HEDGE IS CUT ??

As you all know, (sorry) I have been complaining that my next door neighbour would not cut his leylandii hedge that goes along my veg plot. This battle has been going on for nearly 3 years. They kept saying they would cut it but then didn’t do it.

Last summer they did finally agree, but then only cut a small bit out in the middle, saying that they didn’t want to be able to see our house or the shop next door and that she didn’t want us to be able to see her upstairs Windows.

It had got to nearly 20ft and was making that whole part of my garden very shady and was stopping me being able to use that area and they planned to let it get even taller..

Things came to a head in November and I informed them of the High Hedge Act and if they didn’t cut it then they left me no choice but to use.

More things happened this week, for the 1st time us not playing ball with some of their plans, we think made them realise that being a good neighbour can go both ways. Anyway, after dinner last night, hubby went into the Kitchen to make his cup of tea, when he shouted, they are cutting the hedge!! It has been cut to a sensible height all the way along our boundry!!! I am so so happy that it has been sorted and after me have kept complaining I finally have good news.????

Good ! Sometimes you have to take drastic action or make a threat before you are listened to. I'm very pleased for you :)

That is good news Jen, such a relief for you I would imagine, you held firm and the neighbours, although being awkward in the first place, obviously did not want any legal action against them....

It was lovely in the garden Callie, got lots of weeding done. I said to my daughter this morning, it is so nice to have a view back, not just the sky lol.

Lol, Karen, I did txt him last night and thanked him for cutting the hedge and said it was really appreciated. He txt back this morning that it was no problem. They have never been the sort of neighbours you pop around to. If they came around here, my kettle always went on, but I have never been offered a drink there and most times kept on the doorstep or standing in the Kitchen.

that is brilliant news Jenlewis. I often wonder why people are so unpleasant. our boundary beech hedge also gets otall but OH just cuts it down to a sensible height now. It was too much of a job for them but instead of saying so they just kept saying they'd do it later in the week. 2yrs later...

Oh Seaburngirl, glad the your hedge is getting done now. I suppose some people find it hard to admit when things get to much for them. That was also part of the reason I wanted the hedge cut to a sensible height, so I can cope with it. Back in Kent, the hedge down one side of our garden (again neighbours hedge) had been allowed to get so high that we had to pay to have it cut our side twice a year. Didn't want that expense here. But main reason was lack of light but don't have to worry about it now ?

Yay.. Jen ..
I'm so pleased for you about the hedge ...
will make a great difference !

Thanks TT. We are already seeing such a difference. Garden so much lighter and we are not having to put the light on in our office/study so much during the day. ?

Makes one grateful to have great neighbours! Our newest one looked after me like a mother hen when we had the snow and my husband was in hospital. We were marooned here!

Our hedge boundaries have been professionally cut for some years now and we have done the clearing. This year reckon the latter will have to be seen to as well.

Since we had the hedge at the back lowered drastically we are still amazed at the difference in the light. Has its disadvantages: a small deer was on the back lawn the other day and was easily able to clear the back hedge. Never used to be able to do that!

I am so glad you have nice neighbours Eirlys and that they look after you so well. I've had lovely neighbours before and it makes such a difference.

It can be hard work clearing up hedge cuttings that i don't blame you getting someone in to do it. Lowering a hedge height can really make a difference to amount of light. Luckily we don't seem to have any deer here so I don't have to worry about that. ?

So wonderful when neighbours reduce the height of nuisance trees and problem hedges.

Thank you Shirley. Going to clean my greenhouse today. Didn't think I would be able to use it this year so hadn't done it. Even though it isn't the nicest job, I'm looking forward to doing it ?.

You are so right TT. ?
