??? IT'S ALIVE ???

Many of you may know that I love fuchsia but over the years I gave up on them due to never being able to get them through the winter. In 2016 I grew one in a pot, wrapped it all in bubble wrap for that winter and put it in a sheltered spot and it still died.

Last year I decided to try one last time. Bought “Army Nurse” for a £1 From Morrisons, but this time planted it in the ground and today I saw signs of life.!!!!!!???

I was so happy I did a little dance. The dogs thought I was mad and I think mother nature mistook it for a rain dance as within 10mins it started to pour down and I had to stop weeding.

Thank you all for the advise on how to do it. I’m over the moon ??

Amy Nurse is a really pretty one. So glad its survived. I used to have it here because OH's nurse at work was called Amy and she's a lovely girl. Sadly, even the hardy ones aren't reliable here. They sometimes don't even start growing before June, so not really worth having in my garden. I'm glad you have it!

Thank you Karen. It is pretty. I chose it for the name as well as I used to be a nurse. Think i might get a 2nd fuchsia and see if i can keep 2 alive ?.

Thanks Hywel. After having tried a few times planting them in pots and failed I will stick to planting them into the ground ?

Hi Diane. We are still waiting to hear. Open Reach have no contact phone number for complaints. We found the email address for the CEO of open reach so sent our complaint to that. Had a reply from the top level of complaints team saying they are looking into it and will let us know. They also apologised for the attitude of the fitters. Given that we then had the Easter holidays then in the middle we hope to hear from them soon. Thanks for asking.

Oh that's fantastic news Jen. I understand exactly how you've been feeling. A few years ago I lost all my fuchsias due the the dreaded vine weevils. I've now started to build up my collection again, but you never know what nature has in mind.

Oh Waddy, I'm sorry you lost yours before but glad you are building them up again. Think I'm going to try just another one as it's your fault lol that I now have rose habit lol ?. Telling me about the David Austin. Have added 4 more roses since last year lol.

Anyway some really brilliant news. Next door has just CUT THE HEDGE!!!!!!!!!! looked out the window this evening and saw him doing it. Even cut it to a sensible height. Unfortunately it did take hubby the other day refusing a BT man access to our garden so that he could put up a new phone line along the side of their house. We think it made them realise that maybe they should bit a little nicer to us.

You are making progress at long last Jen. Am so pleased for you. If it helped listening to my solutions to the problem I am pleased, may help someone else in the same situation. These workmen just cant tramp all over people's gardens and do as they like.

You are so right Diane, manners cost nothing but mean a lot as my mother used to say.

I often think that as we grow older and life gets more press button rush-about, we have an important function in that we use good manners when out and about all the time, and maybe it teaches the young ones they are important.

Agree Diane but I also thing it is also down to how people have been brought up. My parents taught me the importance of a simple "please" and "Thank you", and I have taught my daughter the same hopefully. She would joke with me that when she was a teenager and her friends where being shall be say a bit boisterous she would have a little voice in her head telling her to think how other people would feel about it. I am very proud of her and she has grown into a very kind, thoughtful adult.
