The official start of my summer

Well, that’s it. Today was my last day at work. I’m very lucky in that not only do I work part-time, but I also work term-time-only, too! So now that’s over with, and there are 47 wonderful, and hopefully glorious, gardening days ahead of me before I need to go back. Plenty of time, I’ll just sit back and brows GoY for a little while …

Hang on a mo, though. Who’s going to do the washing and ironing? Then there’s the shopping, cleaning, hoovering and dusting, not to mention the cooking and washing up.

And of course we’re going away on holiday for a week. And to prepare for going away I need to do some extra grocery shopping. And maybe leave a few meals in the freezer for elder daughter who’s staying behind. And do some clothes shopping – not just for me but for younger daughter and hubby. (Then of course I must allow time to take back all the things that don’t fit, if I’ve remembered to keep the receipts, and buy them again in different sizes, then take them back again when we decide we don’t like them after all.)

And I must remember to stock up on suncream (!), buy a new sunhat, and get some comfy walking shoes. And daughter needs new trainers.

And of course, mustn’t forget to shop for school uniform for next year before the end of the hols otherwise I’ll be picking over the dregs, as usual (must be more organised).

And daughter needs new school shoes. Can’t risk a visit to the shoe shop during the last week of the hols cos the serving ticket will say number 999 (again) and we’ll have to take a packed lunch with us otherwise we’ll die of hunger while we’re waiting (only to discover that they only have one pair of shoes that fit her anyway, but they are in a beautiful sky blue pink with yellow dots on – not the most practical of school shoe, I’m sure you’ll agree.)

And of course I’ve promised to take her to the cinema. And to the park. And roller skating. And ten-pin-bowling. And to the seaside. And swimming. And invite various friends over to play. And for tea. And to sleep over.

And then there’s my parents. I’ll have to visit them a few times won’t I? And my husband’s parents too, and then there’s my neice’s birthday … and my mam’s birthday come to think of it.

And there are bound to be a few rainy days, aren’t there?

And of course I’ll get another flat tyre and spend at least one afternoon in Kwik Fit…

.. er, excuse me you lot, but I can’t be sitting here chatting … so much to do and so little time! Where’s my spade?

Oh Jan, you've just made your 47 days sound like bloomin' hard work :(

Wouldn't it be easier just...not to go away...sounds like you will need a rest....when you have come back from your.....rest....:))

Looks like the first few of your 47 days could be rainy, so get lots of indoor tasks done, and then, whoopee, outside into the garden...:o)

Oh I'm sure I'll still manage to fit a bit of gardening in, don't you worry!

I'm not worried about your fitting in the gardening... it's the other tasks... lol.

Well if the sun does come out then it'll be no competition at all. Daughter will just have to go barefoot.

Lol. :o)

this sounds a very similar scenario. shoe shopping when daughter is a 51/2 on one foot and a 6 on the other :o( is the ultimate nightmare.

but we are super mums and will manage and do some gardening. yippee.

"No rest for the wicked" as they say.....hee hee hee. Gosh what a lot of things to do.....you'll have to try to fit it all in around your much more important gardening schedule. LOL

Please don't worry about me, everyone - it was my attempt at humour but all I seem to have evoked is pity! Sadly my first day and it's done nothing but rain - the garden looks absolutely sodden. I hope it can recover - once it's stopped raining. At least I've had plenty of time to browse GoY (still haven't tackled that ironing!)
