Dear All
I know i put this on the other bit , i was asked it would be better as a blog .

Tonight on Gardeners World at 8:30pm times may vary according to where you live in the UK .
Toby explains which plants need protecting from the Winter and Joe suggests the best ways to keep them alive in cold conditions.

I thought i would share this with you all as i noticed on some of the questions pages some of you were asking what to do in winter.

If you miss it you could always watch it on BBCi player usually an hour after it has been broadcast .

I will say this i am really enjoying this site everyone is so friendly, and i feel i can help with the odd question that is asked .At the moment my son is finishing sorting out my new shelving for my Greenhouse , my hubby is feeling his age by bending over screwing the screws into the wood. But hey never mind, he’s just falling apart like some of us. My greenhouse is really coming along now.I will take some photo’s of the inside when its finished, and download them on to the site.of course hubbys head is getting bigger by the minute saying how he has done a brilliant job.

Gardening is a pastime that many enjoy. Why is it that we're constantly being bombarded with cooking programmes yet only one on Gardening and even that is celebrityised like most TV now. I'm afraid that from a high point when Geoff Hamilton hosted it, it's gone and is still going down hill. All the carefully rehearsed at-libbing and irrelevant chit-chat. Am I beginning to sound like Victor Meldrew? No doubt thousands enjoy it and learn but why could we not have another programme for boring old codgers like me. Give me GQT anytime.

Thanks for this Hijuju - will be having a look tonight!

On my blog no.21, every week I list the TV shows on the main channels which are of interest to gardeners.
Anyone putting a comment on that thread will automatically get details of these... I usually update the blog on a Saturday morning... I hope this helps. :o)

Doesn't someone else do a Gardeners World update too.?....its a tad confusing if several people are doing the same thing......I knew TT did a listing as well.........

16 Oct, 2009

Peter sometimes writes a blog listing the plants which were mentioned during Gardeners' World...

I totally agree Heron!

Having said all that I missed tonights program.

Watched it again tonight. Though I only kind of 1/2 watch now as prefer Gardners QT on R4.
I did find another use for the collie combings Tt, protecting echiums if I had them LoL

Why do we only get a half hour slot on gardening when they can give hours to cookery programs, I am thinking of writing a letter regarding this to the beeb........

16 Oct, 2009

DD I've tried that, all you get back is a load of mumbo jumbo about what the majority of viewers prefer, how dumb is that

17 Oct, 2009

Hi Pipsqueak....
That's a good idea for Collie combings...
My current photo shows dog hair for bird nests inside a terra cotta apple..:o)

Yes, Grindle and DD2... let's have more garden shows and less cookery programmes !

Amblealice.... I'll be updating my TV blog later this morning.:o)

17 Oct, 2009

Will look out for it TT...thanks.:o)

Grindle it is very dumb, I am afraid it makes me very grumpy, thank God for my Saturday fix in the Telegraph, not very large but I read every line of it.

17 Oct, 2009

I am beginning to realise the Beeb is a law unto theirselves, they say it's what the viewers want, but if they were honest with themselves, it's what they want to broadcast, not what the viewers want.

17 Oct, 2009

Cannot agree more....

17 Oct, 2009

I too agree with you Grindle, but I do think that if you keep on complaining it will get noted. For all we know others may well have raised the issue.

17 Oct, 2009

well I hope they lots of complaints about it Heron, then we just might get some joy

For me GW is too staged, managed and scripted. Gardening isn't like a TV show though you may think so if you watch GW. I wonder should we all list the items that we as real gardeners would like on the programme? Personally, I like the the parts where they take their cameras to gardens of specialists but this could be extended to the 'Joe Bloggs' of gardening who aren't 'Celebs' just 'like minded' folk like us. This I think is why GQT is so popular and has run for so long, they answer questions from the public, it's informative and also very entertaining. Actually I asked a question once when they broadcast locally. Have you any ideas that would improve GW?

17 Oct, 2009

Personally I would like to view more gardens, those made by ordinary folk who have made something from nothing.

21 Oct, 2009

I think they should definately make Carols spot a lot longer :)))))

22 Oct, 2009

I'm told that Carol is having her own programme from her garden in 2011 but I don't know details.

22 Oct, 2009

Oh good, I like her style, and having met her in the summer, I like herself even more.

22 Oct, 2009

I shall look forward to that, this week was ridiculous, showing that annoying Alyce planting a shrub, and the winner of the gardening competition who had acres of garden compared to the other competitors who had fairly modest gardens. (you cannot tell me she did that garden all by herself!!)

I agree with Heron that the present version of Gardeners World does not ring my bell. They always seem to be arguing and its always raining but they can't help that really. Carol seems more soothing and wise than the younger lady. I do watch it with teeth gritted at times. Just scouted about a bit to find Christine Walkden. I liked her programmes and the lovely old fella living nearbye. Her unpretentious garden and ordinary house.
