Chorisia speciosa - Floss Silk Tree

Chorisia speciosa - Floss Silk Tree (Chorisia speciosa)

This is another beautiful flowering tree that is very common and starting to bloom now. They grow quickly to 30 feet and eventually become a very large tree to 75+ feet tall. This tree is commonly used along freeways off-ramps and parks.

Another important thing about this tree is that is has rose-type thorns all along the trunk and branches. The thorns are about 4 time larger than a rose thorn.

Very attractive, despite its thorns!

The flowers are closer to Hibiscus flowers even though the tree is in the Bombaceae family.
