SPRING BARGAINS!

Well, after being on here about 6wks, I’m just about brave enough to attempt my very first blog, so here goes, bear with me lol~Have been really busy in the garden, trying to tidy up after Winter’s come, and (almost) gone, and decided in my infinite wisdom, to see what bargains I could add to my already overfull plot of land, sound familiar? So, off I toddle to Homebase, with my other half, and whilst he is salivating over power tools, I wandered into the Garden Area, always a dodgy thing to do with me. I wasn’t looking to spend any pennies, honest, but this wonderful little Cherry tree just seemed to leap in front of me, and pleaded to come home, I mean, how could I turn it down? I am just so weak-willed when it comes to Flora and Fauna ha ha ha!! And just when I was working out a somewhat plausible excuse to get it passed my other half, I saw the price~ well, you could have knocked me down with a feather~ £12.99p, and with their discount offer, I got it for £10.49p, so even better!!!! It is a Prunus Royal Burgundy, the purple-leaved version of the Kanzan, and I am mighty chuffed with it I can tell you……

I also came across this at half price, so couldn’t leave it behind, could I???

And maybe this isn’t quite the bargain I would have liked it to be, as saw this in a GC, and bought it in a moment of weakness;

It’s Markham’s Pink, and was £8.99, but oh so pretty_ it’s my one weakness, don’t you know, ha ha ha!! This is my lot for now, hope you’ve enjoyed my tentative attempt at blogging, be gentle with me lol!!!

They are a wonderful choice nice colours too. Of course you could nt leave these there, you had to bring some at least back. : O ) Lovely blog Floribunda.

Great choice of plants and good bargains. I especially like the clematis.
I don't know why the print is small. I've seen other blogs with the same.
Never mind. Don't let it prevent you from writing more :o))

Floribunda I am so glad its not just me!!!!. Whenever Im on here my text gets highlighted blue. It is really annoying. Any way good 1st blog Love the tree, so lovely. I guess we all know what you'll be doing this weekend!

17 Apr, 2010

Go back in and edit ~try leaving quite a space or putting it on the next line where it has gone small? I have problems sometimes after putting one of these ~ but usually if you leave enough space it cures it!

17 Apr, 2010

great buys flori ive seen this happen to on other blogs but never happened to me as yet, very strange, hope it sorts itself out for you flori ;o))

17 Apr, 2010

I really enjoyed your blog Flori no matter what size the print.
Well done you.

17 Apr, 2010

Enjoyed your blog. Love the tree and clematis. They are my weaknesses too. I have about 15 clematis all around the garden. I just cant resist them.

good choice of plants... dont know why your writing went so small... perhaps you pressed something by mistake.....

We had to leave a Kanzan behind at the last house and I really miss it just around now: they are beautiful beautiful trees and a purple leaved version sounds even better.

I ended up finding mine a little boring when the blossom has been and gone, so the lush colour will be good. I put a climbing rose through mine - but I guess it needs to grow some first.

The clematis looks gorgeous too!

Well Done. I like the Clematis and I'm interested in The prune code 1. I saw in GW that there's 3 kinds no pruning light pruning and hard pruning. I just got my friend to put a trellis up for mine yesterday and it seems happy so far. I went to a GC yesterday and ended up with a Fuchsia and a Geranium. Well Done! :o))

Thank you, thank you all, for your kind comments on my very first blog~Arlene, I will try leaving more spaces and see if that sorts it out, thanks for advice lol! Glad you all enjoyed it and liked the plants I featured. Was so chuffed with the tree, Sarah. I have a Prunus Sargentii, which is looking stunning in full bloom, and that has a lot of seasonal interest, so hoping my new tree will be the same. I tend to grow Clematis up anything that stand still too long, and my tree is no exception, it really helps prolong interest, just as your climbing rose will Sarah. :~)) Thank you Sixpence...Hywel, Great,Arlene, Sanbaz, Valadel.(Hi Cinders, good to hear from you,) Holly, Sarah, and of course Gg!! I really appreciate you all taking the time to get in touch with me, and making me feel less of a bumbling technophobe on my very first attempt at blogging lol!!! :~))))x

Bargains arre good and non-bargains are good. Garden centres are evil.....they talk to me and make me buy stuff...........I have to stay away or I spend money....going tomorrow but only for canes for the runner beans. We need 4 more! Will I succumb to temptation?????

Great first blog and nice to se someone getting some nice plants and tress!

21 Apr, 2010

Thanks Odd, have a long way to go till I'm as good at blogging as you are, but as they say, every journey begins with the very first step..........lol :~))

22 Apr, 2010

:0) We all start somewhere and I was convinced that no-one would be remotely interested in what I had to say or to share our 'garden experience' but......well, it's nice to be able to add a little humour i think as it keeps people interested.....especialy when the blogs is as long as mine are!!! LOL!

I used to do training within our company and used a lot of humour then and it worked because people would ring me up and say, 'theat thing worked for me because I remembered thejoke you made or line you used and it stuck in my head!' I just try to adopt the same policy when I blog and even if others aren's fussed, I still enjoy as I sit here laughing to myself.....I need to get out more!!!!

Anyway, well done on your maiden blog and here's to many more to come. I will be checking out your pics next but busy at mo so do it later:0)

Welcome aboard the GoY train!

22 Apr, 2010

I was very much the same, I didn't think my garden or interests would be that newsworthy to go onto an internet site, but though have only been here since March,I have loved every second of it! As you might see, I too, use humour a lot, as poor Spritz, Hywel,Wagger and Sixpence know well, but it does not detract from the purpose of the site, but adds a gently colour band to it, and I really enjoy making people smile, I think a smile is such a great gift to pass onto someone, as you never know whose day you might brighten. Your humour, and the way you write is a pure joy to read, I have a long way to catch up, but thanks for helping guide my way Odd, it's a pleasure to be on board the GoY train with you all :~))))x

22 Apr, 2010

Love the tree and the clematis, I can never come out with just what I went in for. Toooooo much temptation on show :-))))

22 Apr, 2010

I so understand that, Annella lol! Believe it or not,the last thing I went in for was a tree of all things lol, but after seeing that trees are up to £40plus in GCs now, this was just too good to walk away from~what can I say? It talked me into taking it home lol.....OddBillie not the only one who hears voices lol....:~))

22 Apr, 2010

I can convince myself I need a plant in seconds ( I talk to myself is that worse??!!! )

22 Apr, 2010

Oh no, Annella, you've got to be able to do that to be on GoY in the first place lol :~))x

22 Apr, 2010

The thing about trees is that they last for ages: the cost per day over the whole of their life is tiny!

22 Apr, 2010

That's so true Sarah. I heard a saying that said if you cut down a tree, always plant another~we had to take out an old rotted pear tree when we first bought our house, but since then I have planted two Robinia 'Frisia's, one Prunus 'Sargentii', a Laburnum x watereri 'Vossii' and a Gleditsia 'Sunburst, plus this new Prunus Kanzan 'Royal 'Burgundy', so think I have more than made up for it, don't you? lol

23 Apr, 2010

Excellent blog Flori and well done for rescuing those poor plants from the evil GC - I believe it's our duty as gardeners don't you ? :-))

28 Apr, 2010

You make me blush, Muddy :~)) My OH just doesn't believe it when I tell him the plants talk to me,and make their bid for freedom away from the evil GCs! As you can tell, I take my job as a plant saviour very seriously ha ha ha! Am just glad I haven't any Alps to cross to get home.................lol :~))

28 Apr, 2010

Well flori to flush isnt bad (AS LONG AS YOU MIND TO FLUSH AND WASH YA HANDS HAHAHAHAH) but to be plant saviour i have a vision of you in your garden with ya toga on singing to the plants ( i.e. singing in the rain., the purple heather., and last but not least roses are red ma love sling backs are blueeeeeeeeeee)

Anyway you do your own thing flori you can even dance in the moonlight with your leaky rubber suit ( now that im sure goyers would be an ideal piccy for flori to send in to here hahaha)

Morning Davey, that's an absolute cracker of a deal, you lucky lad, can understand why you were so pleased, we all love a bargain here on GoY lol! :~))

1 May, 2010

the guy said if any items that look as if theyve been lying for ages then they would greatly reduce the price and that also the money isnt put into the till so to speak its used as a float for their xmas night out-sounds ok with me - so guys ask just ask.

cheers davey

I had the receipt but only because we went to This particular Garden centre to meet a friend on an outing from the Hereford Fuchsia society and as loads of people were buying Fuchsias they were putting them in little boxes as soon as we got home I started to put bits and bobs in the box without removing the receipt. I've noticed today lots of new growth on the fuchsia altho all it's original leaves have gone.

1 May, 2010

Gg,that is great news, and I am so pleased for you! I take it very personally when I lose a plant~nowadays, just too expensive to do so!!! I need to organize myself better, and keep all plant, gardening receipts and labels in a designated storage box~it would make my life so much easier lol!
I'm delighted there is new signs of life on your old Fuchsia, and hope it continues to flourish for you my friend :~))

Great advice about trellis, anything that you can save a bit of money on nowadays lol! Thanks Davey :~))
