A Magical Place : I'm digressing!

Our garden at the moment is, (dare I say it), looking rather dull! The Alstroemerias are well past their best and the chilly nights mean that it is time they were put to bed. Other Half has collected reams of leaves ready for this and, they provide nice, dry protection all Winter.

The pond area will soon be covered to protect it from the ever-growing heaps of leaves. We plan to remove larger branches possibly next year and as we have lovely new neighbours, they may want some levels reduced to give them more light.

The cyclamen have done well under the trees but will need weeding next Spring as the wild Arum loves our garden and we spend time every year getting rid of some of them.

Surprisingly we have some Alpine strawberries in fruit though we have two greedy Blackbirds who get up earlier than we do.

The birds are quite demanding, especially the Robin, as he perches on the feeder and just stares until my OH provides its favourite food: mealworms!

One squirrel has been back using the telegraph wire as its tightrope. I deliberately collected lots of hazelnuts from the farm orchard and they are on the table outside, ignored so far.

Because I have no images like some of the delightful ones posted recently I am posting instead one or two of animals we saw at a really lovely place we visited in Herefordshire. It’s the Small Breeds Farm Park and Owl Centre at Kington. We decided to visit one day and can truly recommend it. As it was the third week in September there were no children and we had the place nearly to ourselves.
The owls are many and are beautiful. Didn’t realise there were so many “varieties”. The smaller animals were scattered around a central area and included miniature horses, goats and Alpacas.

The staff obviously chosen for their love of animals were friendly and informative and the place was spotless.

If you like animals (allowed to roam freely around) and a caring environment do visit the Small Breeds Farm Park and Owl Centre at Kington. You won’t be disappointed.

Thrupennybit: When I reached for my camera they were in that heart-shaped pose. I was just too late to capture it. :O(

Seaburngirl:, Bjs, Shirley tulip: Glad you like the images and the digression. We did enjoy our visit.
The animals are kept indoors if the weather is bad. They come first! The whole place is closed now for the Winter.

What a shame you were not quick enough Eiryls but I think this photo is just as lovely.

Thank you Eirlys, for your beautiful photos,I really enjoyed them.

Thank you, Callie. They were taken with the Panasonic Lumix which I still don't really like. The images were sharper on my old Fuji and on the Casio.

Snap Eirlys - I haven't fathomed my Panasonic Lumix yet..
But your photos are great. if you go again, more owls please! It sounds like a grand place to visit.

Thank you, Steragram. Don't think we will be visiting Herefordshire again. It was a kind of a farewell tour and that is why we visited two attractions ,we felt, (wrongly), were geared towards children.
Older Son has our camera and likes it One reason I went for that model. His images taken in Japan are truly colourful and beautiful. So, must be us!! :O)

Dotty Daisy (always think that sounds a bit rude) : You won't be disappointed. Your grandson will love the place. Children are encouraged to pat the animals and there are scores of beautifully - clean washbasins scattered around with messages urging everyone to wash hands. We were truly impressed. My OH said so to a helper who turned out to be the owner!

Nice floral areas but camera had run out of battery charge by that time.

P.S We don't have shares in this attraction. Honest!

You've reminded me of one day I turned up at the GC to find (to my absolute surprise) a semi-circle of Owls of all different varieties, all sitting perfectly well-behaved on top of wooden boxes in the plant sales area... Just sitting there being admired by the shoppers, of which there were only a few at that moment. I still can't quite believe it happened, and it has never happened since, but I wish it would happen again as it was absolutely incredible! Like you, I was amazed at how much variety there was in the Owl family and they were all so very beautiful and in perfect condition too. It was such a treat. I shall never forget seeing them. :) Thanks for the photos Eirlys!

Wow! That must have been something, Karen. They really are lovely birds. No wonder Harry Potter had one.

We used to have a white barn owl that flew along the lane regularly at 6.10p.m. You could set your watch to its appearance. Alas. No longer around.

Shame Eirlys. They are beautiful birds aren't they? I sometimes hear one in the dead of night - scared me to death the first time I heard it and went to investigate - saw it fly out of a tree so knew what it was!

One evening in the garden we heard an owl hooting from quite a distance. I told my OH I had seen on TV a way of attracting an owl. He scoffed, so of course I had to have a go. We both had a shock when an owl swooped down and perched on the telegraph wire nearby. The sound resembles that of a creature in distress. Well this time it was me! :O)

Well I would love to hear you do that Eirlys!

You would have today Stera! Went down to the Quay, and on returning then I couldn't find the multi storey car park! Then I dropped my phone and when I picked it up pressed the silly alarm on the back. OH and daughter immediately responded in panic. When I tried to calm them down, couldn't send message . It's a PAYG phone and money had run out. I was a creature in distress all right! Honestly!!!
I am all in favour of shopping on line!

2 Nov, 2017

Oh dear - that sounds like the sort of state I get into these days. You feel such an idiot don't you, coupled with the panic and the inconvenience. Old age is not for wimps.

2 Nov, 2017

I have never before had that sort of eventful ten minutes!
Silly! I am buying the rest of Christmas gifts on line. Easier and often cheaper.

I agree so much easier......less traffic, no carols blaring out....oh dear grumpy old woman comes to mind!!

3 Nov, 2017

"grumpy old woman" : don't believe that DD2 (good acronym for a Star Wars film that). Like me I'm sure you prefer your home comforts.
I think it's fun comparing prices and finding novelties on line.

I know I wrote a comment on here, its not here now, so that's made me into a " Grumpy Old Woman ", it frustrates me so much when that happens... Any way I really enjoyed this blog Eirlys at the time and have enjoyed it once again today, lovely pics, I especially liked the black swans and the owls and admit I did chuckle at your antics with phone, I'm an avid fan of shopping online, I dislike it at the best of times, its certainly easier these days, I like my warmth too much to traipse about the shops.....Fingers x my comment stays here this time, lol....

LincsLass: I've just checked and can't see a post from you. Wonder where it went? (I could hear you stomping around looking for it.) :O)

My husband took some lovely images at this place but not sure if I can post more .It's a gardening site after all.

All my shopping done now ; just waiting for the last few bits to be delivered. That's not boasting; it's coming to terms with my old age!

Eirlys it has been happening for years now , never have found out why, its very frustrating , even more so if I'm halfway through a blog and it disappears as well, was happening to me all the time last winter which is why there aren't many blogs this year, I admit I got very disillusioned by it all..I don't think anyone would mind you posting more photo's of your visit, Goy is a lot quieter now and its good to have something new to read and look at, I'm miles behind with my shopping I keep asking my grandchildren for a list as I do like to give them something they really want, warned them this weekend that if they don't hurry up they'll end up with my choice for xmas, lol...I know that sounds as though I spoil them, of course that's true but we only have two and one step grandaughter so its easier for us than others who have lots...
